Evaporator case removal

I have a 2000 GTP, and am experiencing water in the passenger floorboard from the AC running. As per the service notification I attempted to clear out the drain pipe on the firewall, but it was pretty much clean. The next step it indicates is to remove the evaporator case, and open it up to clean any issue from there. My problem is that I have no idea how to get to it. I know it's behind(under?) the dash, but that's about it.

Is this the best way to go about stopping the leak, or are there better options to try first? If this is the way to go, any help in pointing me towards how to get to it, or just how involved(special tools, mandatory new parts, etc...) this is would be appreciated.

On a difficulty scale of 1-5 with 1 being the easiest, I'd say this is a 4. Center console has to come out for this. Very few people have done it or a heater core you probably won't find a ton of info
 
I was kind of afraid of that. Any idea what it would likely cost to have a mechanic do it? I'm guessing there's going to be a good amount of labor with the whole center console removal thing.
 
I'm in the process of doing this right now. There is so little information about this on the internet, I broke down and paid for alldatadiy.com to get the instructions. I'm almost done removing everything, so some time tomorrow I will finally know why my car floods with the a/c on.
