Enging sputtering

After searching around and not really knowing what the hell to search for, I figured i'd make a thread.

My SES light came on a few weeks ago and the engine would i guess sputter, whole car would shake like its not firing on all cyl's i would guess. Occasionally it'll go away, then come back, and go away. Its mainly noticeable when idling. The engine sounds like its trying not to stall, the head lights will dim and it'll start revving itself back up.

This happens while on the highway too, makes a real nasty sounding noise under load and i have minimal power to accel, but once again it'll go away and come back randomly. Recently fixed the LIM gasket and it was running fine for about a month then this happened. Would like some help to ID whats going on. Thanks

I've had similair problems on two occasions. The first time it happened, I replaced the spark plugs and wires and it solved the problem. Just recently, I had something similar happen again. It ended up being a bad MAF sensor.

sounds like a MAF to me if its sparatic. if possible when its doing this try to unplug the maf sensor. its the one on the top of the tb if you didnt know.

thanks for the replies guys, when i changed the LIM gasket I changed the plugs, also last year i changed the plugs and wires so I hope thats not the case.

I just went and tried unpluging the MAF sensor and the engine just shut off. That good or bad? hah

both i guess, it should still run. so good that you found the prob and bad that its the maf haha

well i got a new MAF, put her in it ran perfect for a day or two, now its back to being a little *****. Could it be my PCM possibly? I'm at a loss as to what else it could be.
