Engine troubles

illy

New member
Just finished overhauling the car and running into problems

so heres what i kno...

the engine light is on... p0171 too lean
I erased the code and it came back
there is still some old gas in the tank with sea foam but i just filled it up with new gas
i have 3 new spark plugs because i broke the original 3 when doing the headers. (this is what happens when u work in the dark)
new wires
overkill tune
oil pressure fluctuating significantly will sometimes drop low enough for the warning light to flash and then rise to 120. on the way home tonight it was idling in the high 100's also driving in the high 100s
i have a exhaust leak from my headers, towards the resonator
I dont think the knock sensor works because my scan guage says 0 constantly in KR1
short trim is 25 and long is 16.4
AFR is at 14.7 and drops to 11.0 when the supercharger kicks in
sounds like a lawn mower, closest thing i can equate it too

What i dont kno...

how to fix it
why is it happening
and what the engine is supposed to sound like, i haven't got to drive it stock in 6 months

Sounds like your oil gauge is borked if its reading that high.

You should never see more than 70-80 psi when cold driving around and HOT around 35-40psi at idle with 60-65 psi crusiing around.

You have your fuel trims maxed out, you have a major vacuum leak somewhere, find it and fix it.

That is also why you have a P0171.

Have you checked your MAF sensor also, sometimes when people put on those K&N filters the oil will foul the MAF sensor and throw that code. This is from previous experience on other cars. There is MAF cleaner on the market ( and that's the only thing to clean that with)
Then again you probably have an air intake leak somewhere..here is an old school way of looking for it How To Find A Vacuum Leak - EricTheCarGuy - YouTube

What do you mean when you kno...say overhaul the car? Cause we dunnkno what you kno, ya kno?

P0171 is likely a serious vacuum leak as Cam said. Without knowing what you dicked with on the car, it's tough to suggest how to fix it. We have to assume you have a t in place to read pressure and get the warning light,

Also fix that exhaust leak if it's before your o2 sensor. That can give you a faulty o2 reading and screw with your fuel trims and won't help with fixing the lean condition you where talking about

Ok fixed the vacuum leak. I didn't compress the orings on the injectors when I replaced em. So it was coming from there. <br /><br />But then all hell broke loose!!!<br /><br />The car started surging at idle<br />And shot 0171, 0203, and 0570 codes. Deleted then and they didn't come back on yet <br /><br />But it won't accelerate and when it does it's very sluggish<br />At a stop light the car just died and it became a huge paper weight blocking traffic<br /><br />Then the service traction control and stability control turned on as well as the reduced engine power light. Car wouldn't turn back on until I disconnected and reconnect the PCM <br /><br />Also my boost gauges are not working an the supercharger is not turning on providing any boost idk y<br /><br />It turned into a big clusterfcuk<br /><br />My SFT and LFT at idle was -25.0<br />and the long would drop to -40 when I would accelerate <br /><br />Idk what's going on the exhaust leak and a little bad gas can't be doing this<br /><br /><br /><br />Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And when I say overhaul I just did all the neglected maintance. Gaskets. Elbows. Etc.

Only thing non stock on the engine is a smaller pulley 3.6. Sd headers, overkill tune, and custom CAI

What have you changed recently.

Also, fix vacuum leak before you try anything else.

The headers. It has to be the headers aren't sealed good.

And I kno this for two reasons. 1 my ghetto block off of the egr hole on the headers came off (penny and rtv). Blew right out of the hole. And one of the bolts for the clamps rattled right out. So clearly the clamps arent tight. I must of forgot to finish tightening them during install. But I'm pretty sure this giant exhaust leak is the culprit now. Once I get a chance to fix it I will confirm
