I have a 2004 grand prix series 3 3.8 L non supercharged gt2 does anyone know if this engine is prone for failing I'm on my 2nd engine just started the dreaded rod knock first engine did the same thing 1st engine had 130k 2nd 70k engine was installed by certified mechanic. I'm not hard on my car and I change my oil and I don't use penzoil what the heck is going on

Bad luck?

These motors are very stong and will last a very long time.

Maybe both these motor saw some coolant in the oil?

Its so hard to say, but I'm it does suck when another motor dies.

No coolant in the oil at the time of failure. I'm searching for answers. Has anyone blown up 2 3800's in a month with normal driving

Well I just talked with a guy that used to machine these engines and when pontiac started to go down hill they changed their machine tool life from 1500 to when their tooling broke so parts for this engine that were machined after 2002 were not the most precision parts being put together. They had some engines fail on the way to the parking lot after assembly so maybe I just got 2 of these junk engines
