engine ticking/knocking and dies

Hi GPF. I am new to owning a GP and new to this forum so i'm sorry if my question was already answered. I've searched thru hundreds of post but could not find a specific answer. I have a 1999 GP GT, when I accelerate I hear a ticking coming from the left side by the belt, then when I come to a stop the car will shut down and die. right before it dies the rpms drop low and the oil light comes on then poof, car is dead. it does start back up but hesitates and I have to give it gas. I can not pinpoint if the knocking/ticking is coming from the belt-drive or the engine itself. I started noticing the ticking slightly a week ago when I put Mercon Techron in it to clean the injectors. I am truly at a loss and hope someone can help me out quick.

whens that last time you changed the oil and did you put that cleaner in the fuel tank when it was about completely empty then refill it all the way? How much did you put in

I actually just bought the car 2 weeks ago and have yet to change the oil, that was on the agenda this weekend. I did however check the oil and it wasn't terribly bad or low, and the oil change gauge is at 15 percent. The fuel cleaner I put in when the low fuel light came on and then refilled it.

take the belt off, then start it up, dont run it for more then a few minutes, (dont drive it) if the sound is gone, its a pulley, if its still there, something inside broke.

post a vid if you can. it helps. some sounds we know all to well.

a seizing a/c compressor can stall a car, and lock the engine up. does the a/c still work? does it not do this when the a/c is on?

idler and tensioner pulleys also can tick or squeal.

The a/c does work, just needs to be charged a little but it ticks when the a/c or heat is on or not. The ticking sounds like its coming from that area but when I put a listening tool I can also hear ticking from the injectors area.

they all tick a little bit, (injectors that is) what your talking about sounds worse due to the stalling out.

check engine light on? if so go have it scanned.

If your injectors are ticking can't you clean them up. Also what might aid you when using fuel cleaner is try running the tank on 93 octane fuel. That would help make clean your system even more.

Well I took it to a shop and the verdict is the engine is as close to shot as possible. The ticking is coming from the valves. That really sucks.

valve tick is fixable. not to bad, just depends on whats worn out or broken.

it could be a cracked rocker spring, or a rocker nut backed off. or dead lifters being the worst case.

The only good thing out of this is ahhavee a warranty that will cover it. I just have to wait about another week so it covers it and have to put more miles on the car. So for the next week or two I willl be driving with straight 40 oil in it.

Saying it is shot was more my words. Honestly these gm cars are foreign to me. Before this car I only knew old muscle cars and imports. But with having a warranty I'm just wiping my hands clean and going to have a new motor put it. Saves me tons of hours in personal labor trying to tear the head down.

Well if metal is in the oil then I say its a bottem end issue, like a bearing.

But I guess that doesnt matter now, you got a warranty to get it fixed so all will be well.

Haha the warranty is good I just have to wait because I just got it and it takes about 30 days before you can make a claim without them thinking of a liability or something like that so hopefully the car lasts another week and then I should be golden and coming on here for other things besides problems.
