Recently bought a Grand Prix gtp and noticed the temperature gauge goes to half way 100 degrees when I stop and goes back to normal when I start driving but sometimes when it's cold out you can see steam comin from under the hood, doesn't happen all the time hit the engine is really hot I pull the oil dipstick and its smokin it's so hot. Any ideas what that might be. Also is it normal for the temperature to jump up and down all the time?

Might be time for a coolant flush with a new thermostat and then bleed the cooling system of air to make sure it wont overheat.
Yea flushed it last night now it's basically staying around the. 1/4 mark goes a little over but not that much
