Engine swap question...

2005GTX

New member
Hey guys. I have a 05 N/A GP. I would like to put the supercharged L32 in it, along with the HD trans that comes with that motor. I already have the new engine and trans. I bought a whole wrecked car that still ran. Took everything out, without destroying the harness or anything. My question is, do i run the PCM that I have with the new motor, or my OEM one for my N/A motor and have it re-tuned? Also, do I use my harness, or the one that belongs to the L32 engine? There are some additional components like the S/C bypass solenoid that has a plug going to it, that my N/A harness will not have. Any help would be appreciated.

Technically no, it does not matter what the VIN says on the computer or car for it to run. The vehicle is not new enough to where the PCM, TCM, BCM and maybe various other modules need the same VIN to function.

If you have emission testings that make sure the VIN is the same, then that's another story.

We do have emissions testing here so.. i will def need to have the VIN correct. I can also have them do a tune on it when they flash it for added updates and such. Anything I need to look out for on the PASS KEY2 for the ignition? Is that part of the PCM, or in the Body?

if I recall the emissions does not go off of the computer VIN number since computers are replaced with junkyard components every now and then they visually check the vehicle identification number.
the passkey system is through the BCM or body control module and that computer sends an enable signal to the PCM which then allows injector pulse and starter function.

if pa is anything like NJ when they do the obd scan it reads the vin, the vin is also scanned off the door or dash if new enough to have a bar code, it must match or you fail here.

sounds like your car will be parked a little while you do the swap job. i can tune your cars pcm to work with the sc and hd tranny combo, and add a canned tune to it as well.

with flat rate or 2 day shipping it can be back to you in less then a week easy.

Well, the actual physical swap itself wont take me long at all as I am quite familiar with the mechanics of the 3800. Its the computer stuff that has me worried, that's all. I just want it to start and run as it should. I have never done this swap before, and the electronics part of it is my only concern. I will be running a set of headers, smaller pulley, possibly a short stack intercooler, XP hot cam with all required support mods. Maybe a set of CNC heads if the budget allows for it. So a custom tune will be needed. BTW, the engine and trans I have came from an 06.
