Engine Stumble

I have a 2000 grand prix gt 3.8L (not supercharged). While accelerating the motor stumbles around 2000 rpm and while holding the gas steady it fluctuates from about 1800rpm to 2300rpm. I do not have any check engine lights and when I let off or accelerate it will stop. I have unplugged the EGR valve as suggested by the Haynes manual but the problem continues.... any ideas? Thank-You!

Where did you plug the valve? There's really no reason to plug a valve on a stock car.

Has any work been done to the car in the last few months?

Off the cuff: The issue sounds a bit like a vacuum leak. If work has been done (lower intake gaskets for example) I would suspect a crack in the EGR tube below the TB. The only way to confirm is to remove the tube and inpect closely.

By "unplugged" i mean the electrical wire that plugs in the top of the valve. A mechanic told me to try that and see how it runs with the electrical disconnected. The problem did not change but I will try what you have suggested thank-you for the advice because I am lost! No work has been done recently this problem just started a week or so ago with no obvious cause.

Ok, Let's plug that back in and scan the car for codes. Expect to see at least one EGR code. Hopefully the car wants to help us figure it out.
