Engine running hot 04

i like to start the car rad cap off, let it idle till the fans come on, if the coolant drops in the rad, that means the t stat opened up a bit, the cold rad fluid will make it close again, top off the rad, then wait for the fans to come on, then bleed the air out of the bleeder atop the t stat housing, open it up 3 or 4 turns, shut it when a steady stream of coolant comes out. top off the rad, cap it, done

There's some good information in here:

Not quite a step by step in the above link. It's not a bad job. Take off air intake, fuel rail, intake plenum, altenator bracket, then the intake manifold. Watch for the two hidden bolts on the intake manifold (check out my thread). Your generation grand prix requires you to remove the passenger side front engine mount to remove the intake manifold. The coolant elbows will likely break when you remove them, I had to pull out some lodged plastic pieces with a pick. I'd recommend replacing them with the aluminum ones. You can find them with other HELP! brand parts at your autoparts store. Also, don't forget to reinstall the plastic tube-thing that will be stuck to your old upper intake manifold gasket. My Haynes manual was good for torque specs, but was pretty worthless for the job itself. Felpro has a new rev. metal LIM gasket, use that instead of putting a plastic back in. The Felpro kit I bought came with upper injector O-rings but not the lower, so if you plan on changing out the lowers, you'll need to buy separate I believe.
