Engine Overhaul Kit

Hi everyone. I have been lurking and reading and love the info that you guys have available. This is my first post, and it is a tragic one.

I drove home from work in my 98 Grand Prix GT and about 1 mile from the house I noticed the engine stutter. The temp was around 245 degrees. I got home and the coolant level was low. Topped it off with coolant and started the engine. It ran very rough and then made a loud screech. I shut it off and tried again, it smoothed off a little and then stalled. Tried a third time and the engine will no longer turn over. Seems that the motor has seized.

Saying all that to ask this, do you guys know of a place that sells engine overhaul kits for the NA 3.8?

I wanna guess that the oil is a milkshake, pulled the dipstick yet?

Various online stores like Rockauto and such can sell those type of kits.

But after all the machine work that needs to be done to the motor and the cost of the overhaul kit you'll be in it pretty deep. Its easier to buy a used motor and sometimes cheaper aswell.

Unless you have a machine shop handy for personal use, a used motor is a better idea.

I'd be the oil isn't a milkshake.. that's a headgasket issue.

Pull all six plugs and see how many are wet. You may have had the upper intake rupture nad fill the LIM. Do that and see if your motor is actually bad. If it's bad, it's cheaper to replace than to fix your engine. Fixing yours would usually require a machine shop.

First off, I noticed I posted this in the wrong section. Sorry about that. Mine is a NA motor.

I puled the dipstick and the oil looks fine. I also checked the water and there is no oil in the water.

I found a supercharged 3.8 close by for $900. Would it be too much more money to install the forced induction motor in my car? I know that transmission is not quite as sturdy as the HD but can this be a tiered install so to speak? For example: install the new supercharged motor and then swap the tranny a little later on? Obviously I will need to take it nice and easy until I swap the transmission. Will there be any electrical gremlins to fight?

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. I appreciate it!

Awesome! I just read this completely. This is great news! Much better than a spent motor! I am going to check this now. If this is the issue, other than replacing the upper intake and resealing everything, what is involved in cleaning out the water?

Last time I had this on a guys motor the motor wouldn't even turn over. It was hydrolocked. Wouldn't even turn over.. it broke the starter lol. I pulled the front 3 plugs, they were ok. The rear three, all filled with coolant.

Pulled the upper intake off the entire lower was filled with coolant. Figured it was the LIM blew up. Replaced the LIM. Dude calls me 2 days later. Motor locked up again. swapped with a spare Upper intake (black plastic piece on top) and it's been fine ever since. Also replaced the upper gasket at the same time.

Same exact thing here. The front three plugs were dry, the rear three were soaked. I changed the upper intake and gasket, plugs and wires. Everything is now working as it should.

Big thanks to you guys for pointing me in the right direction. I was really freaked out when this took place thinking that I had ruined the motor. Thanks you again!
