Engine Noise

OK, I have been having this engine noise for about 500 miles. SO about 3 or 4 weeks now. I am hearing a grinding/bearing noise. The issue is that it is not constant. I never hear it at idle and I hear it at WOT sometimes. When I do it is obviously loud. I hear it alot when the engine is cold and I am cruising at 80 with the tcc locked. As soon as I let off the gas and unlock the tcc it is gone until the tcc locks up again. I can vary the tps and under very low tps, it is gone. At about 10% or so, I can hear it. I hear it less when the car is warm, but the sound is still there. I am thinking about driving the car with out the s/c belt to see if I can narrow it down, but i am unsure it is a pulley or a bearing in the s/c because it does not happen all the time. Can I get some direction on where to look?

Sounds like the SC bearings...but im not a pro at stuff like that! Mine did the same thing and I changed the SC oil and havent had a problem since. I hope this helps a little!! if not I offer free high fives....lol

ok, I checked the fluid of the blower, it was just under the threads. I topped it off anyways. I took it for a ride and still happened. So, I took off the belt to the blower and still made the same sound. Any one else have any suggestions?

Transmission. There is nothing else that can make the grinding noise. If it was consistent with the RPMs then I would say its engine related but its not.

That was something I did not want to hear

Sometimes you gotta prepare for the worst too...especially with your mod list...any little blip of something could send everything in a erratic downward spiral...OR NOT...Ever think it could be just the transmission needing serviced...might be a nice thing to do ANYWAY:cool:

it is a built trans with about 20k on it and the fluid looks good. To me it sounds like an alternator bearing, but it does not make the sound at idle. I do think it is getting worse, what ever it is. It is happening more often. Well, either I find out before it breaks or after. I hope before.

What sounds are made when the TCC starts to go?

Honestly 20k is alot of miles depending on how you drive for your mod list. Both of my buddies built trannies took a dump with waaaaay less than that. Im still on a stocker w shift kit for over 3 years now DD.....go figure. Eventho mines is on its way out the door I think because if I try to floor it or burnout I get 14* of KR and it feels like the car is bogging.
