I have a 98 SE with a 3.1 and when im at a level speed I get a flutter on the rpms (especialy on an up slope) and shes a bit hard to start when cold (gotta use the pedal and give her gas):confused: and sometimes when I start her hot she only puts out 500 rpms then i shut her off then start again sometimes it takes a few trys but she goes normal at 850- 900 rpms now it just passed an E-test but this problem is annoying any and all input is greatly helpful

I got the same problem on my 96 se w 3.1...but I found out if I keep her above 1/2 tank she won't do it; try that and see if it works
 
Try a new fuel filter and maybe some Lucas Injector cleaner...also for the studder...do you throw any SES codes? It could be a misfire...get new plugs and wires.
 
my 96 is doing the same thing, dose it do it worse when someone rides with you, mine dose, i put new fule filter same thing, new plugs and wires also. I am changing the lim gasket today, my last motor did the same thing and locked up bc of the lim gasket, it took me about 2 hr to tear down geting ready to get the parts and put back togeather, check for coolent leaks around the mortor or oil in the coolent
