Engine Cleaning

What's a good way to clean an engine, cosmetically? I have a lot of oil on my engine, the normal built up dirt and I just want to make it look clean.

The search bar up top works if you use it :p

But the general consensus is: cover up electronics and aftermarket air filter(if that applies), then throw on a bunch of engine degreaser, but regular degreaser works too. Finally you just take a hose and spray it all down.

If I recal correctly, you can use something like Armor All tire shine to give it a ton more shine. :p

EDIT: some minor searching gave me this

Good luck :D

i used crc engine de greaser last time i cleaned up. it had no smell after it was washed off with a hose. and worked as good if not better then the rest out there.

you want to put the car on car ramps, or jack stands so you can spray under the car, so you can hit the sides of the engine block and pan, and the back side of the tranny. from the pass wheel area, you can spray a good chunk of the trans down too. then spray the top of the engine down, 2 cans is always a must, as one can will do it one time, if its real bad, spray it down again.

if your all stock, air box and all, you can literally spray the whole engine down with a hose, just avoid nailing the alternator with a a full blast for to long.

all the plugs and wires have weather pac seals, its all safe to get wet.

if you have a open cone air filter, take it off, bag and rubber band the TB opening.

Purple stuff, green stuff, someone had luck with the dollar store stuff, whatever. scrub stuff clean with a paintbrush. rinse and repeat as necessary. Then tire shine the plastic and rubber and wipe it dry with a cloth.

tire shine looks good for a few weeks, then dirt and dust stick to everything, and make it look all dirty again, yes i tried it out, not a fan at all.

If you have an android or iphone I highly recommend the app Tapatalk.

Its a few bucks but it makes this forum pretty convenient :D
