end of road for stock tranny?

so i've had my car for two weeks now.
guy i bought it from said "drive comes and goes sometimes."
i knew the tc didn't lock up right when i got it and so began my affair with my gtp

the symptoms, when cool tranny short shifts to 2nd fast and tc locks up to the point of almost stalling car, shudders when tc is locked will unlock if you let off the gas. all it has now is second, and when tranny gets hot wont come out of second even when downshifted manually, but sunday it stuck in first when i downshifted to first. no whining from tranny really, jus shudders slightly in the upper rpms in second but it did that from the time i test drove it.

i cant pull the codes with my pos sct dashscan scanner, but it will clear them. :)

if my tranny is shot, how long can i expect a junkyard stock tranny to hold up? car has a junk tune, hai, and 3.7 pully.

edit: car has 180k on it

depend on the miles on the car probably idk. i had to have mine rebuilt. same thing was wrong with mine it would short shift and slip at every chance it had.

junkyard tranny's can last a long time or not so long it really depends on what kind of shape they are in. It's a crap shoot. I put a jy trans in my 99 caravan and have put 15K miles on it no problem and i beat the **** out of it the first month because it had a 30 day warranty.

Somewhere between 1 mile and 300,000 miles. That's like asking if I blindfold you how many darts will it take before you hit a bullseye from 100 feet away?

There are too many variables for anyone to give you a honest answer. You don't know the condition let alone how it was treated. Too much of a gamble if you ask me and a lottery I sure as hell would never play. But then again it's your money. ;)

A stocker shouldn't have any real problems with your mods. It's your foot that'll be the biggest contributing factor. Your mods are nearly a stock car.

Well, I have more mods planned as soon as I can drive the car again. I can always keep my tranny and build it up later on. What does a tranny need to hold up to a 3.4 pulley with supporting mods?

I ran a 150k+ mile $40 junkyard core trans in my drag fiero running faster than anyone on here....

I prefer the crap shoots... just make sure the trans came out of a car that was hit hard enough.... some guys like to scrap these things when the trans/motor fails now.

Is your foot fast or does it just hold stuff well?

Its about 50/50 depending on conditions I suppose
