emissons coming up, got a question

well hello to everyone lol Gotta ask, My car has an abs light on and prolly not gonna be able to get it fixed. emissions testing and saftey testing are 2 different things correct? As long as all my sensors read ready or some shiat like that i should be fine? Im in illinois so if that helps any.

I would assume that emissions and safety are two things. Emissions makes sure u have no exhaust leaks and that u have the appropriate things like mufflers CAT and all. Safety I'm not quite forsure what they look for except maybe airbags seatbelts headlights brake lights etc. Somebody with more experience should chime in hopefully this helps a little

yeah, i read about it a bit and cant seem to get a good answer, if it fails im screwed, cause my abs thing is now out of my reach. ive done all i can with out haveing a tech2 either way come tax time cars fobs and all will be working

yup for sure is and all i get out of abs side is u1301, tracked down wires and all ohm out correctly and such per gm manual
 


the class 2 data, it the one that sends the wake up signals to everything. this is what leads me to believe the abs module is not getting the wake up message, and also believe this is why teh fob reciever doesnt get it ether, its all tied together. Just blows my mind that sometimes when its cold it acts fine.
 
ABS light will not cause a car to fail inspection...... At least in Texas. You should be able to go to your states DMV site and look up that info. Or take the lazy way out and just call a place that does inspection and ask them.
 


yeah i tried calling with the last gp, no help with them, im gona go in friday and have in checked. if i fail for that dumb stuff i actually have until march something to get it fixed by the deadline
 
My cavalier, grand am, grand prix and accord all passed inspection with an abs and traction control lights. If you have an obd2 plug in test, you'll pass as long as the check engine light is off. The safety inspection pretty much makes sure the brake pads and rotors are good, good tire tread, ball joints good,etc. It's a visual inspection. Emissions is a plug in scanner tool and or rolling sniffer.

Again, the plug in scanner only reads for engine codes, and doesn't see if the abs lights on.

I live in ny, the inspection standards here are more strict than most states.
 
This may help, but i live in the most strict emission state, California.... and i havent failed an emission test yet on my LS. ABS has nothing to do with emissions. For the record though, the cause of that ABS light is mostly bc you have a open circuit, a short or low voltage to one or all four ABS sensors. you should pass emissions though...
 
my car passed in NJ with the abs/trac off light on, and the air bag light on lol.

if the check engine light is on its a instant fail here.( they have a huge sign hanging lol ) everything else slides here.

only one thing to do, go and see what happens, if you fail most states give you a month to get it fixed and reinspected.
 


But that was probably triggering a cel. Abs isn't even required on cars, so I can't see why if the abs is turned off it wouldn't pass.
