One lasrt issue to solve and the GP is back on the road

2006 GP GT

2 weeks ago my son was at a stoplight and the car just died. Took a while to restart but did. Had it checked at the dealer and they found nothing.

I was driving the car last week and all of a sudden the computer screen flashes GP like it does when you start the car. Car ran fine. Took to loacl mechanic and could find nothing.

Just now started the car. Every message - low fuel, traction control, etc flashed in the screen and said range 16miles. Car has 1/4 tank of gas. Then computer reset while car was idling in driveway and when it came back no erros, correct mileage.

Anyone have any thoughts? New battery less than 1 year ago. Or point me to another thread.
 


It's the ignition switch most likely also check to make sure you had the ignition key recall for preventing the key from accidentally being turned off in an accident
 
When it went to the dealer to look for a diagnosis they did the ignition switch recll at that time. Do they replace the ignition with the recall?
 
No, it's just an insert in the key itself to try and prevent it from turning while the car is driving, mostly because people put too many keychains on and the ignition cylinder isn't designed to support weight on the key...

Cheap way to "fix" the problem, without actually fixing anything. Typical GM.

It could be a dirty/loose connector at any of the control modules... body control module is behind the dash next to the driver's door, powertrain control module is inside the airbox. Pull the negative terminal off the battery, unplug each connector, look for dirt or corrosion, clean if necessary, plug it back in, wiggle a few times for good measure.

Also check the battery ground, it goes from the negative terminal on the battery to the strut tower on the passenger side, unbolt it and use a wire brush to clean everything, sand a little bit of paint off from around the hole down to bare metal, just enough to get a good connection, put it back with a liberal amount of dielectric grease. Also check the ground connection right next to the starter, if it looks corroded give it the same treatment.

Ok. I need more help. I have been driving the GP daily and it needs a new dash cover, rear brakes, steering pump, left front hub bearing, fix a coolant Leah and a new rear bumper to make it like new again. Car runs great. 24 mpg. I am actually looking forward to doing all the work, but...

Still have the electrical issue. More info. Was below freezing this am. When I drive to work all the DIC kept resetting and giving me every warning light there is. And the radio would turn off and on. Car ran perfect through all of this.

I have all day tomorrow to collect information and Sunday is the fix day. Besides grounds on the battery and starter, what else can I check.

Once the car warmed up everything was back to normal. No warning lights or anything.

Also, when the car warmed up, the voltage read 14.7-14.8. Is that normal? Usually runs 13.8-14.2.
