EGR Valve! What does it do?

I'm getting a code for a stuck EGR Valve. anyone else had this problem and does it need to be fixed. The car seems to run fine, maybe a little hesitation when you first pull out!

you can take a wrench and hit it a few times and see if it gets unstuck, but otherwise they are cheap as crap to replace with a use one. i think i have one sitting in the back of my garage if you need one.

the EGR is really only active when youre cruising. it lets a little bit of exhaust air into the cylinders to help your MPG. i took mine off and left it off and didnt notice a significant drop in mileage or anything.

The EGR Valve is there to recirculate some of the exhaust gasses back into the intake, actually lowering combustion chamber temperatures. It reduces NOx formation, since those compounds are only formed above ~2500F.

First thing I would try is pulling it off and spraying it with carb cleaner. You can also push it up and down manually while you have it off, together with spraying it out, it may clear up your problem. If not, find a good used one.

100% correct. Exhaust gas is inert. So the PCM can reduce the fuel going into each cylinder because less oxygen is present. The exhaust gas acts as a "filler" and helps boost your MPG. It also lowers the combustion chamber temps because less fuel is used (less heat).

Dealer told me it won't hurt any thing. You'll just get stuck riding around with your ses light on. On mine it seems I maybe lost 1 mpg.

Mine is disabled in the PCM. I didn't notice any change. Still get like 33MPG on the highway. When I top swap I will be totally removing the EGR so I don't have it adding exhaust crud to my nice and fresh intake parts.

I think once I get a good tune on mine, it'll go back up. When I go IC, I'll be removing mine also. How soon before you do you TS.
