I have a 98 GTP for my 15 yr old daughter for a school car. We live about 10 miles from school and she can drive on a permit. (band/ sports before and after school)There is some gravel roads and deer are horrible any more these past 10 years. Is there any wany I can limit speed via the ECU so the car wont go over 55 for her first few months?

i know there is a max speed limiter on the stock PCM, but im not sure if you can lower it. guys with tuners should be able to chime in.

Yeah you can set it to what ever you want with HP tuners. Just checked on mine for the speed limiter min is 0 and max is 256.

Are you a 16 year old girl?

lol, not last time I checked. I did it all of the time when I was 15, though, and don't tell me that girls are more cautious drivers than guys at that age, I've ridden with too many of them to fall for that. If you're used to gravel, it's really not that bad.

until you get vibrated right off of the road because you cant turn on a washboard gravel road when you are going 80...........(not you personally)

Yes you can but you have to have a tuner...you can set the fuel cutoff stupid low IIRC or spark retard...but I can't remember 100%...

Yep. You can use a tuner to set it to anything you want. But, you need the tuner software which even for the cheaper DHP sets is still $250-300.

It's possible to cut the fuel and spark at 55mph. But in order to do so you would need a spare pcm to send someone to tune or have a local tuner do so. On the other hand, I've seen accidents on the gravel road going less than 55mph, any outcome is bad. You'd be better off cutting off everything at 35mph... lol

if she talks on her phone and drives like other 15 yr old girls I have seen maybe it should be cut off @5.....LOL

How about selling the GTP and buying her a 1.5 liter non-VTEC Honda hatch. That way even if she tried to get over 55mph it would take her a mile to get there.

+1 on that statement bluegtp91. Why bother giving her a car and limiting it, when you can get a cheaper car, with a cheaper insurance for her? I was stuck driving a 95 explorer w/ rwd and i was bloody scared for my first year. i did learn how to get out of a oversteer in the snow tho.

Exactly why I'm afraid to buy my girlfriend a grand prix...she sucks at driving. It's not like speeding or anything...she just kind of...sucks at it lol. You'd think she was COMPLETELY wasted the whole time. Halfway through a turn she'll just punch it out of nowhere...all over the road...almost hits something everytime...:p
And this is in a ****ing town and country that her parents gave her that shes been using for awhile but now they're getting divorced and took it back. Now she wants a small car...I was gunna get her a GP GT but I'm kinda scared to put her in a car that quick lol. I tried talking her into an RX300 but...nope. She had me take her to look at a car the other day...turned out to be a 5.0 RWD convertible...her+snow+rwd(or even fwd :p)=No ****ing way lol.
