EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) Replacement, ABS Light/TCS Off Solution

I got my module back from Module Master last week and finally got a chance to install it today. Unfortunately the light comes back on once I hit 5-10 MPH still. I disconnected the battery for a bit even. All 4 wheel sensors checked out when I did an Ohms test(before I sent module in), well within spec and I spun the hubs by hand. Wires did not "appear" to be bad going up to any of the wheels either, but I will most likely be doing a Ohms test on each wire leading up to the wheel now. There's 105,000 miles on the car now. Does anyone have a pin out of the big and small plug that go on the EBCM? IT would be for a 2002 GTP, but others years may work as well. Any pin outs would probably be good to have in the first post/writeup too.
I noticed when I originally(and today) unplugged the EBCM that the big plug pin connectors almost looked rusted. I will try and clean them up to see if that could be the problem. Now, Module Master sent a receipt back with module which listed (can't think off hand) what was bad inside, but that could just be a generic statement that they send with all their modules. I hope it actually was bad, and I didn't just get charged $180 to "clean it up a bit" so to speak.

No, they sent it in mine they told me which electrode went bad in mine and everything. If it's not the EBCM then your problem is the wiring on the wheel hub sensors. I know you checked them but...it's a GP.

So my recommendation is just to get it scanned. Maybe you had two problems. But with the EBCM working properly, you will now get a result when you get it scanned as the ebcm is now functional and can detect which part of the ABS system has the problem.
 
I just changed all 4 of my hubs (Timken) and I still have the abs light on. I was told to try to clear it first before I remove the EBCM. It's weird though. Sometimes the light comes on when I first start the car and sometimes it comes on 10 mins after I start driving. Its pissing me off

i had the same symptoms with my EBCM. it would come and go.

but one way to find out is... go to a cheap shop that charges like $30-60 bucks for an ABS scan. let them scan it. if they say "oh man we can't find ANYTHING wrong and our scanner won't read anything and the wiring is good" then your EBCM is bad and you don't have to pay anything because their scanner didn't give results (or at least u better not pay).

so yeah. i however went to the dealership just to be sure and paid $100 for one of their scans but im a perfectionist i like it to be clear-cut defined problems.
 
Ya, I am going to send the wife up to our repair guy that we use for jobs I don't want to do lol. Hopefully he will only charge $50 or so. I'll see if I can get her to drive over there while I am sleeping(work 3rd shift) tomorrow. It's pissing me off as well. I let this issue go for about 2 years now, and now I want to sell the car this winter to get a 4X4 Tracker. Which I can't do till this is resolved.

I might still need the pin out on the plug to figure out which wire is which when I test the Ohms resistance. So if anyone has that that would be great!
 


my uncle owns a shop so before I spend ANY money, I'm going to him. He has this electronics wiz that works there so if he cant find anything, I'm gonna pull my EBCM and send it to module master. (smh because Im tired of this car and cant save for my A5 or G37)
 
Yeah load, just make sure IF their test doesn't yield any results that she does NOT give them any money. Firestone had an ABS scanner that was relatively inexpensive. So just make sure she knows lol.

And yeah banks, that's great and all but imo it's easiest just to get it scanned, do what it says, if it doesn't say anything at all, then the EBCM is dead.
 
my uncle has a snap on scanner and so does the electronics wiz. had it scaned a while ago and the right front sensor had low signal. I replaced it and still have the light. only difference is now its not on when i start the car. before it was on immediately after the car was started
 
well. it might have changed since then, i know mine was verrry coincidental. the MINUTE i fixed the vibration problem i was having the ABS light popped up. so i wouldn't be surprised lol.

but yeah. i know that under certain speeds it gets like a certain current, then moderate speeds get a certain current, and high speeds get a certain current which lets the ebcm know what's going on with the wheels and what not and for my car it tells the steering rack if i need help or not based on what speed and all. so perhaps it's reading wrong and throwing a code of some sort. really dont know. i would just get it scanned again and see what's going on. to me, ebcm is an easier fix than hubs or wiring is. hubs can be a pain in the ass if they've never been off. and wiring...well me and wiring don't get along too well. but thanks to posi-locks we have worked something out. :)
 
My steering also sucks. sometimes it feels like i have no power steering at all. pump and rack are both new too. couldn't the EBCM effect that as well?
 


YES. that was my biggest complaint when my EBCM went. it's the Magnasteer. like i was saying, the ebcm uses the certain currents from the speed sensors to determine whether or not to turn on Magnasteer and how much to turn it on. When under 20mph, you will probably notice the most stiffness in the wheel. So YES the EBCM does control the traction control system and Magnasteer for the GTPs.

when mine was broke actually, i'd be at a stop or something and the abs light would be off. car steers like brand new. the light would come on and you would have thought the PS pump was crap. figured it out very soon. it was actually the leading reason in fixing the EBCM. it snows maybe 1-2 weeks out of the year here, i'm not too concerned about my wheels sliding.
 
so I guess I'm probably gonna be pulling EBCM soon. My car does the same thing. when there's no ABS light on, steering is fine. The light comes on and steering sucks
 
Again I say, get it scanned first. I just hate for anyone to have to spend more money than they have to. It could just be a simple hub/wire issue again or it could very well be the ebcm. Good luck and please post back your findings as to help others who might have the same problems you did.

That will be done first. I'm just saying with my luck, I'm pretty sure it wont be a minor wiring issue
 
Will the ABS scanner see a code if the ABS and TCS are off? When I first start the car there are no lights, it's not until I get up to 5-10 MPH when it checks and throws the light. I've heard conflicting talk that the code may not show up for the scanner if the light is not on, and I want to make sure the wife either leaves the car running to keep the lights on if that is the case.

From my understanding if there are any codes that have been active, whether the lights are on or not, they will be stored in the memory. I will try to verify this for you...
