Easy cold air upgrade

no matter what the intake is made of, it will get heat soaked.

Just because YOU think that cold air isn't important,doesn't make it true my friend.

Bio has a point, choose volume over temperature. But when it comes down to it, yes the colder the air the better....that is why we install inter coolers.....no?

But now Bio will tell you that the SC heats up the air anyway, which is why the intercooler is after the SC.

Which is true.

But air density increases with a decrease in air temperature.

So putting colder air in is effectively more boost.

Put in simple terms.
 
Intercooler is controlling POST blower temps, not PRE blower temps...where the air is going to be stupid hot regardless.

I agree that colder air is better for stock or cars modded down to a 3.4" setup...but hell, past that...its all about flow. Open cone or bust.

To add to that, I always toss out the open cone idea for stock guys just because of the noob factor and the ease of the install.

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's more boost. But it would be a more oxygen rich, denser charge of air before it get's superheated from the blower. The heating of the air depends on metal composition of the blower/heat efficiency of the blower etc etc etc. Bio is just stating the obvious, and that is that a cast piece of **** m90 is going to heat the **** out of whatever air you throw at it. Put an open cone on that slut and get the most volume you can.
 
I think that you're all forgetting that an engine only uses the air it needs. And that's 3.8 liters of air. Which means that all upgraded intakes are a complete waste of money and not yielding any power increase, even on a supercharged car. :th_tongue2:

Bigger the better on these cars.

I agree about the power increase, when you're stock or CLOSE to it...but it DOES make a difference, especially like a person at your mod level.

You wouldn't beyond benefit from a big ol' 9" filter slapped on the end of the throttle body. Don't belive me? You're missing out, not me. I know it worked.
 
I think that you're forgetting the volume of the lower intake/ supercharger/ heads...... 3.8 liters of air... but at what pressure?
 
Dude, I was kidding, lol. I know how an engine works.

There's a guy that lives around here that swears up and down that bigger intakes don't do a damn thing, even on supercharged cars. It was all over clubgp a few years back.

this video illustrates my point about pressure.... air and water have the same flow characteristics. Say you have a tube that holds a liter of water, but you are able to fit 2 liters of water inside the tube because it is double hte pressure of atmospheric pressure.

I've actually been contemplating ditching the FWI that's on my car and strapping a 9'' filter to my TB instead, like I did on my first GTP. Think it will make a noticeable difference?
 
If you are going from a 9" FWI to a 9" HAI:
Will you notice a difference from the steering wheel? No way.
Will you notice it at the track... I feel that things like reaction time, tire pressure, and keeping out of tire spin would be more pressing concerns.
Will you notice it on a dyno? Yes.

Now, if you're talking about sticking a bigger filter on, like say from a 4" to a 9"... You'll notice the difference all around.

Sample 1 has 1L of air at temp A and pressure B.

Sample 2 has 1L of air at temp 2*A and pressure B.

There are more oxygen molecules in sample 1.

More oxygen is more power.
