Dynamat on Kock sensors and Trans?



do it. it doesn't actually go on the knock sensor, just on the bracket around the sensor.

and you can probably find the dynamat cheaper somewhere else.

maybe I dont know what I'm talking about though.
 
No, we had wrapped the actual metal part of the knock sensor before install...pretty small amount.

We also placed a pretty large sheet on the transmission case itself that the motor would have sat up against.
 
I always thought this was dumb… Dynamat doesn't block sound, it just stops panel resonance. If you want to block sound, use MLV. Or mass loaded vinyl.
 
The picture looks like the actual sensor is wrapped. I am assuming the threaded part that goes into.the block.is what picks up knock so.doing.the outside of the sensor will just help even more since its close.to.the trans housing.

HMMM stuff is sold at home depot. Wonder if it will stand up to the heat or if it makes any difference. When scanning my buddies car we saw some KR during the 2nd to 3rd shift all the time just a quick 3ish during the shift then it was fine..nothing major was just thinking since I had engine and trans out this couldnt hurt my set up, but I do not want to hurt the function of the knock sensor so its masking true knock.
 


If the dynamat holds up, I'm confident in the MLV. Lots of people use MLV in trans tunnels and near exhaust stuff to quiet noise.

Dynamat adds mass to panels, and does not allow it to resonate. Great for doors with speakers or trunk lids, but it doesn't block sound. I always giggle when I see people pile on sound deadener in their door panels thinking it'll quiet the car.
 
Ill grab some MLV for the trans housing for sure...and maybe the trunk to keep out the drone...lol Thanks man!
 
I'm a guy that had Intense build a trans back when. For a low price they added the dynamat. It would be wrapped on the sensor itself and a sheet on the trans where it faces the engine.

Can't say it ever did a thing for me. Then I was thinking about it while replacing the hundreth or so trans. A few inches to one side of the dynamat is where the bell housing bolts solidly to the engine. On the other side of it..there's four bolts holding a diff to engine steel bracket right near the knock sensor. If there were noise that was going to go through the aluminum case of the trans, why wouldn't that noise transmit via the bracket or bell housing?
