This is what I was talking about. Basically it is a box that you can put dry ice into it and the coolant flows in through one end and through the tubes then out the other end to cool it further. No dry ice no problem, still runs the same as your old setup.

I think something like that would work well. having the coolant flow through pipes in the core, and then having the ice or coolant sit on top should cool the coolant running through the system fairly well. If I was going to do that, I would plumb in additional coolant lines running to the trunk and then mount the icebox in the trunk. an icebox like that wouldn't need airflow to cool. I could put a temperature sensor someplace in the coolant system to make sure the coolant doesn't freeze.
 
Hmm, what effect does dry ice have on anti-freeze/coolant thats running through the intercooler?

theoretically the dry ice would cool the coolant more than the airflow passing through the heat exchanger which would result in a colder charge of air going into the engine.
 
that a pretty good idea for an icebox intercooler. I have no experience with fabrication, but making a stainless steel box with pipe going through it should be able to be cooled down enough to justify the labor. I made a simple/rough drawing of the idea in my head of the routing the coolant passages inside the box. is this kind of what you were thinking? there would need to be a drain and a vent, and the normal intercooler system would probably need an additional pump to move all the coolant to the trunk area. if the ice box was big enough and it had some good insulation, the ice or dry ice could last a while, but if the coolant isn't moving and it gets too cold there would be some risk of freezing.

This is a single pass design, using 1/2" diameter, .032" (1/32")wall tubing. If you have several large flow tubes the water slows down as it passes so it has more time to cool. To give you an idea of the size the end tanks are 3/4" inside width and the tubes are 12" long from the inside edges of the end tank. The wall thickness is .120 (11gauge or just shy of 1/8"). This is just a rough sketch to show what I am referring to. This design allows you to run the hoses already used in the front and just ties in series after the heat exchanger already in place. I only did a top view, the design can be modified with more tubes but I think at this size 6-7 would be plenty. I would also modify the lid area so that it is quick access and vented.

I could build one. My car is totally stock at the moment and doesn't even run under boost. But I do plan on making a laminova intercooler once I get this issue sorted. I've already bought an L32 LIM and have a few superchargers to use for mockup.

I kinda have a lot on my plate right now, but I may be able to but would need someone willing to test it, on a like it buy it basis maybe, since I wouldn't have a use for it for at least a year or so. I can also tweak the design to better fit the host car.

lemon nova cores suck ass...and unless you're making a single pass heat exchanger on the sc core...all the cold water in the world doesn't help much
 
It's a 3 core and it will be single pass. I'm sure it will probably work better than the heater cores your using now. The setup I have was originally speced for 450 HP, if I get 300 to the wheels I will be happy.

A bare WBS gen 3 core, modified to a gen 5 core placement with a diverter tongue with the post core boost bypass valve passage, and the core was converted to single pass and the plates machined for only $100 over the $500 core cost.

 


Looks nice, how thick is the core? I'm still going to see what I can do with my Laminova setup since I already have it, but that is down the road too.

1. Get car to run like it did stock
2. Add headers, 3" cat and exhaust
3.??????
4. Tune
5. Make horsepower.
