Driving with worn steering?

So my steering system is somewhat worn I assume, my last mechanic when I first got the car told me my rack and pinion is wearing out and that was like 9 months ago. I can still steer fine the steering wheel just doesnt come back as fast as a newer car would, it is leaking power steering fluid and i never got around to fixing it i just fill the reservoir like once a month. am i at any danger driving it like this? i will get the leak actually checked eventually just cant right now

As long as it's full on fluid you should be fine. I drove mine for way longer on a bad rack. The only downside was that once it went, I could barely turn left at all (like pull with both arms as hard as I could to make the turn and not wreck it).

Easy to check for the leak yourself. Grab some degreaser and spray all the lines and rack down, and hose it off. Fire it up and let the leak occur again and take a peek under the car and spot the leak. Probably either a seal on the inner tie-rod, or one of the lines at the pump leaking. Could be the pump itself too.

alright thanks, i might be selling the thing anyways because of the strut tower rust, i dont really want to but starting to look like i dont really have a choice
