Driving issues

Not trying to argue but educate you a little more. The spline count is one reason but there's a lip on certain ones. When I get out of work, I will supply photos.

I could use plenty education and kinda typed that in a hurry. All I really know is if a guy uses a HD trans in a GT, GTP hubs will be needed, to fit the axles. Any additional light you can shed is great. I didn't step in with intent to fog up the thread. Resume...

Wow forgot about this. If I'm not busy, I'll get pics of the axle like I said.

Anyways I'm curious about these specific "GTP" hubs as well.

I do get the two of you confused, don't know why. Old maybe. My original statement was in the context of working with one GT and one GTP at hand. In that case- making a GTP from a GT so to speak, by using all necessary parts from the donor GTP, I would want the GTP's hubs. Hopefully this clears it up for you all. I made no reference to GTP specific hubs. I know they fit other cars, you don't get old by being stupid. Ignorant? Sure. Intentionally at times!

Somebody please say the spline count is different at the trans end of the CV shaft. I don't mind being outwardly insane and assumed the hub end would also be different. FWD is bunk. Apology to OP for misleading, and thanks to SlickItchy for pointing out my mistake. Axles, not hubs. I stand corrected.

Hey, I'm just relaxing and waiting for my cvs to come in. I don't really care where this goes from here, but hopefully someone has an answer to your question.

The Cardone Select drivers side axle on a 97 GT is PN 661255HD
The Cardone Select passenger side axle on a 97 GT is PN 661249
The Cardone Select drivers side axle on a 97 GTP is PN 661255HD
The Cardone Select passenger side axle on a 97 GTP is PN 661256
The Cardone Select drivers side axle on an 07 GT is PN 661255HD
The Cardone Select passeger side axle on an 07 Gt is PN 661256

I am not sure how the spline count can be different on the drivers side axle if the part numbers are the same 97-08. If you have time you can cross reference part numbers off Rockauto or whatever parts site, and I am assuming you will come up with the same results I did. If you find anything different please post your findings.

shadegt- "Hey, I'm just relaxing and waiting for my cvs to come in. I don't really care where this goes from here, but hopefully someone has an answer to your question."

Shade, since you are cool with however this goes... if you don't mind, I feel a brief explanation is in order. If for no other reason, to protect my credibility.

You were cool the whole way through this topic and pretty much ended up figuring it out and confirming it yourself. I hope its the solution for you.

At the time you posted this thread, I read it. Another member was also posting about making a driver from a couple 200 buck cars, earlier gen. My gen.

I almost posted a reply like this:
"Could it just be the ABS pump running due to a wiring or hub problem? That kinda makes a growling noise then the light comes on. Can you feel the vibration through the brake pedal?"

But by the time I decided how to word that and re-read the post... I realized you have an 07 which I know little of, and saw other members tending to your concerns. Your replies to them told me you probably know what the ABS pump feels like anyway...

So I passed on replying. After all, my experience is limited to two 99s and an 02. Plus whatever wrecked ones I fixed back when.

Later on, I saw there was a pause then Scotty came in and like I often do, fired a reply from a quick scan of the last post. No crime, no harm. Advice was heard.

I knew the next guys have experience too, but in hurriedly reading myself what was going on...

I confused shade with $200 car guy, and percieved a hole in the information given thus far plus potential personality conflicts, so I typed my thought.

My way-previous research about 99GT to GTP swapping was semi-relevant but I had committed a half-truth to memory from it...

My life was all RWD, FWD I'm still learning. It never occurred to me that the outer end could be common, shared between GT and P (of my gen) so when I learned awhile back about inner spline count-

I wrongly assumed outers follow suit, they do not. As the others have shown and told, and as you know... well we all know now, right? I'm on the same page now.

My experience with hubs and CVs is minimal, my background is in driver maintainence and pro bodywork so I'm not as lost as it seems. But I was lost in this thread. My bad.

Shade I bet you get my drift, as do the others. If GPs were worth their snot, blown ones would have honkin big half shafts that can handle something, room for more tire, etc.

But they're regular cars and we're regular guys and none are perfect. FWIW I think every poster was helpful or at least as in my case, wanting to be.

Good to know we can all talk like men even though we act different.

kornhead- Thank you for the simple catch. I have not had much access to my PC this week, I swung and missed trying to keep up on a phone.

HighOctane, you're alright man. Thanks. Now I'm curious about the diameters.... preesh the clarity offered. Save it for a real need.

Slick, feel free to call me out on mistakes any time, I prefer to own them and make a specatacle of it like I'm doing now. I think I'm getting the hang of how you communicate lol. Until I have you cussing, I won't flinch or be butthurt if you tell it like you see it.

At least I've avoided being a total fvcktard (in my mind now). Been a dusk til dawn week and I'm faded. Good luck Shade. Hope everybody gets where I came from with the bad info I spewed.

No worries chief.....gotta remember gm would use the same part to save money in as many cars as possible. Axles and hubs being a prime example of that.

Oh no I wasn't trying to be a dick.

I think my luck is running out. I just drove home, after shifting into drive, waiting 3 seconds, and the lightly accelerating, my left side traction control kicked in and my car popped out of drive. I put it back into park, waited a few seconds, then put it back into drive again and waited a few more seconds and then accelerated. I have a sinking feeling that my transmission or differential is failing as well. Anyone have any insight on this or am I just over thinking this?
