Driver's side door key

Quick question. I own a 2006 Grand Prix. Today the battery in my keyless entry died when i went to my car, not a big deal I'd just use my key in the door lock. Unfortunately the key would not turn. Now this is the first time I have ever tried to use the key in the door to unlock it, I had always used the remote. Fortunately I was at home and only had to go and retrieve the spare set of keys with the spare remote. I tinkered around with both keys, neither will unlock the door manually. Now this got me thinking, what if I was not at home and did not have my spare keyless entry handy, I would have had a problem.
Can anyone tell me what the problem could possibly be and if there is a quick fix or some simple tips?

Thanks for the help.

My dad's 05 GP is the same thing. He bought it from an auction and the key never worked on it. It would turn the car on but not unlock the door. He always had to use the Keyless Remote to unlock it. Weird...

Thanks for replies. I managed to fix the lock, just took a few swift jerks side to side and the tumbler finally moved. I guess it was just sticky from never having been used.
