• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Driven for months without power steering.

no tool needed, lock your steering wheel toss the keys on the seat, dont un lock the wheel till your putting the shaft back on. as you will have to have some one wiggle the wheel slowly side to side to get it back on.

do not spin the wheel round and round, or the clock spring will break.

when you take the old rack out out, lay the new one next to it, align the steering shaft the same as the old one, so its as close as possible.

i pulled the shaft down past the boot bottom, so i could get my huge finger on top of the U joint in the shaft, then jacked the sub frame up to it, i got lucky, i moved the wheel a C hair to the left and it slid right on for me, then jacked it up some more to fully seat it, then bolted it back on, then raised the frame the rest of the way and re bolted it up. pulled the boot back on the rack too.

Ok, I will give that a try, hopefully all goes well. This will be my first rack install ever!
I was worried about the airbags. That's why I ask that question. The video you posted here showed it a little different then you explained.

that guy in the vid has no clue wtf hes talking about when it comes to the air bags lol

what he meant to say is the clock spring to the airbag can break. im sure.

Make sure that you get the correct rack, there are 2 different options for steering racks.
1. With Magnasteer.
2. Without Magnasteer.
-EDIT- The lines are different as well between the 2 racks if you plan on putting in new ones, I would in case the previous owner put the wrong one in.
Easiest way to tell is get under the hood and look down the firewall on the drivers side and you can see the top of the steering rack, if it has a wire going into it you have Magnasteer, if there is no wire no Magnasteer.

Here is a pic of the 2 different units side by side.
