Downpipe or Headers?

How much horsepower increase at the wheels can I expect from each. I plan on only doing one.

For headers to be effective, I assume the downpipe needs to be in place.

Thanks, J.

Read the header and manifold thread and learn. Headers come with the down pipe, so just buy the headers.

You said you would need the dp for the headers to be effective............ headers are $250 ish on ebay now.

it really depends how far you wanna take your car...

basic DD and want just a little more pep? downpipe...

plan on going beyond a 3.4 pulley? headers...

personally i have the zzps but everyone has their spacific preference....

Okay, I was aware but wasn't thinking.

What I'm trying to figure out is which part accounts for the most horsepower gain. If the downpipe itself is the main horsepower gain, I'd save the money and only buy that.

I was figuring that headers would be about twice as expensive as a downpipe but if there's a good set out there for a similiar price to the zzp downpipe, I'd go that route.

I plan on adding a 3.5 pulley in the future but still keeping it a DD.

Do you like your zzp's? Any trouble installing?

if your not wanting to go further than that 3.5 then a DP is the route I would go... its more cost efficient for what it looks like your wanting to do...

FYI... dont buy one brand new when a used one can bee had for half the price and still perform the same...

just my opinion

power gain?

Well there are two main catagories of headers.... smaller primaries and larger ones....

Smaller primaries are ideal for stock heads and what not.

As soon as you get into bigger cams and headwork, the larger primaries are going to be what you'd want.

I actually lowered my boost levels going from larger to smaller primaries on a mostly stock car.

And that is an indication that i have increased flow.
