Door Chime/Speaker Problems

I recently bought a used 2005 Grand Prix GTP at a local auction (was previously a rental car). Anyway, I noticed the speakers were flat and I just thought there was nothing I could do until the other day I noticed the door chime. Sometimes the door chime works, and sometimes it doesn't, but when the door chime does work the stereo sounds 1000% better. Is there just a loose connection somewhere in there you think since sometimes it works and others not? Is it a repair you think I'd be able to do or would it be easier (and hopefully cheap) to send it to the shop and have them check it out?
