Does the GXP have stock resonators?

Purchased an 06 GXP. Car has 123k miles on it. Don't know what all the owner did to it performance wise, but I know the "cool" sounding exhaust after about 5 days of driving it is driving me nuts with drone. I'd like to get it very quiet, as I assume it didn't do that from the factory. Would this be from worn out stock mufflers, likely a replacement, maybe a pre-muffler resonator delete done?

it should of came with a res, if theres not one there you can install a glass pack in its place, does the same job for a lot less money.

they dont cause any flow issues, they just kill the drone.

Looks like it's a single pipe to the back that splits to dual mufflers and tips. Would the resonator be a single one on the single pipe before the split at the rear?

it would be at the flange for the cat back. cats on the engine side of the flange, res on the other.

my old cat back, its a single muffler but the res is in the same location .

25 for the thrush gp. then 10 for a flange from the local muffler shop. no one else sells it local.

cut off the one inlet tube and welded the flange to the glass pack. you can also weld the flange tot he tube, but i needed mine 2 inches shorter.

and bolted in. if you dont have after market pipes you need to weld the other end to the pipe. mine had aftermarket slip joints already.

Looks like resonator is there and stock mufflers have some holes in them from wear and some rust. Only thing rusty on the whole car as far as I can see. That'd be why it's a little louder. :th_biggrin2:

Now I gotta decide if I want basic stock type mufflers or try and find a combo that doesn't drone.

i just installed a ebay cat back, swapped to dual mufflers, came shipped for like 300. its quiet like stock the way i like it, no rasp or drone and raspberry fart sounds from it either.

i painted it all with high heat paint too to give it a fighting chance at life here.

the only down side is the paint stinks like crap every time it gets hot for a while. it just stopped smelling a few weeks back now.

Or you could go to hottexhaust.com & get the Magnaflow exhaust which comes with 2 nice & pretty resonators instead of mufflers, for a very reasonable price, then get the ZZP down pipe, with or without the cat, depending on your states laws, & enjoy a decent burble from your 5.3.

Last check that "reasonable" price from hottexaust was 950, without a coupon. Far cry from the just over 500 it was when they first came out. Better be a pretty big coupon to buy that exhaust now a days

There's always mandrelbendexhaust .com then just choose what mufflers you want.

all that paint burned off scotty

no its all still there. but it takes many heat cycles till you stop smelling it. it did smoke like a muther the first drive. i also let it sit for like 3 days after being painted. so one its heat cured it stops smelling.

once i smelt the paint burning off i knew instantly what that smell was that was coming from my engine when it got swapped lol

So I ended up getting the lovely P0420 code 2 days after purchasing the car. Looks like the dealer turned it off and got lucky it didn't come on during test drives. Yippie for that . Took it to a local performance exhaust shop after doing a rattle test and hearing nasty rattle, sure enough the cat was shut. They welded on a set of generic chambered mufflers that got it more quiet but give it a nice low idle rumble, also a magnaflow high flow cat. If that engine comes back on very soon, I'll be looking for an HP tuner and turning that garbage off (unless it won't work in this model). If it waits a while I'll start checking plugs and things to make sure it isn't going too rich.

I'm going to replace the resonator now, likely with a generic glasspack replacement. Is there a specific size/length that would best reduce the drone compared to any other size?
