Do you have to remove the Alt. when doing 1.9 rocker arm install?

Let me know what worked best for those of you who installed aftermarket rockers. Not sure how intensive the swap is.

Yes you do because you gotta remove the VC plus I think the bracket is in the way of a rocker.

You not doing springs? Those would be more of a challenge than removing the alt and tensioner brackets.

I am going to keep the stock springs for now. Just going to keep shift points under 5500 rpm and see how it does. (unless you'd suggest otherwise??)
 
Just don't mix up the alternator bolts when you re-install it. Seem too many times that people put the long bolt in the top hole and it goes through the valve cover,
 


Funny I don't see how you mess up those bolts. I usually lay the bolts in the part they come off of or remember where they go plus the one bolt has a stud on the top of it iirc.

Also, I just torque all the new rockers down to the same torque, whether the valve for that particular rocker is open or closed right? Seems like for these roller journal style rockers (ZZP/stock style) they can be torqued down whether said valve is open or closed...
 
#1 if a few more bolts makes this "intensive" you may want to skip doing rockers.
#2 Please do your homework and find out that if you have new reusable bolts, torque should be 25ft lbs with the valve closed and no pressure on it
#3 Sure most of us have torqued them when the valve is open.. but then turn the motor some..retorque, turn more..retorque.
 
Another question on this topic:

Is it wise to replace the coolant elbows when removing the tensioner bracket? It looks like they will inherently have to come out and coolant drained since they are connected to the tensioner bracket, right??
