Do I need a wiring harness?

Just bought a Kenwood KDC-X395 and I was wondering if I'm going to need the gmos-01 or not. I've got a 2007 GP with no onstar or bose, but I do have a 6 cd changer.

I've read that I will lose door chimes and calendar without it but those aren't really a big deal to me, I'm just wondering if it will bug up other parts/security system by not using one.

Thanks guys

While I'm unsure. Wanted to say... damn fine post. Clear, concise, all the info needed is included. :th_thumbsup-wink:

Please have a mechanical problem... please. :th_laugh-lol3:

Technically speaking you don't need a wiring harness except to maintain the factory side of the harness. The reality being that your after market stereo will require RAP to function correctly in terms of powering on. If you'd like to be cheap just get a basic wiring harness that fits factory and install an in-line switch from radio shack with 12V-always on.

The calendar in your DIC is provided through the radio. The chimes is provided by RAP.

It's your call.

There use to be a company that made a quality product without getting raped by PAC or others. I think PAC bought them out though? sorry.

EDIT: The company was Peripheral Electronics. They were purchased by PAC too. My RAP harness was $30, don't remember the model though.
