DNA springs... yep i said it

Your car looks great. I really like the drop too. Your tires are about 1- 1.5 inches shorter than stockers too, I believe, so I'd say they drop the advertised 1.7 inches. I'm gonna put a set my GTP as soon as they come in. Just ordered em tonight. Amazon was sold out so I ordered em from speed daddys website. I'm runnin 245/45zr18s so it should eliminate any wheel gap. I gotta have the rear end up slighlty higher than front & judging by your ride, it should be perfect. I got the blue ones. I kinda doubt that they're powdercoated at all. Never saw anything about it in their advertisement. I'll shoot em an email & if need be I'll coat em first. I'll try & post pics after I Get em on.

Yea they are powdercoated, I got the blue ones too. I'll get pics up when the weather lets me work on it again. I was using spring compressors by the way, the nut just wouldnt break loose.

Becky, did you cut your bump stomps? If so, how much did you trim off? :th_mischievious:

This should help.

Also in this thread there is a post about using the rear bumpp stops from an 06+ monte carlo ss.

http://www.grandprixforums.net/kyb-excel-g-vs-gr-2-interesting-discussion-kyb-tech-45867.html

From the thread. I just did my brothers car and he used the bump stops from the 06+ miinte carlo ss. They are part numbers SB128 and SB127. Should work good with lowering springs.

Also wanted to add that the tech also recommended using the rear strut boot/bumpstop for the monte/impala instead of the factory grand prix. He did not recommend cutting or removing the bumpstops for any reason as they are there to protect the strut, but supposedly this one allows slightly more travel before hitting the bumpstop. If you cut the bumpstops too much, the internal strut rod can bottom out and possibly get bent just slightly, allowing it to leak internally and degrade performance. - Makes me wonder if this is why some people have good luck with GR2's and other's say they don't last??? Maybe some ppl cut the bumpstops too much?

KYB part number is SB128, so i ordered these as well.

I'm about to put these on my car and just wanted to double check that the ones that are a little shorter and more tightly coiled are the fronts right because of the engine wight? And the taller ones are the rear? Thanks

Since this looks like it will get as popular as the Speed Daddy headers.
Someone just do a nice installation write up with pictures, tips, etc and get it stickied.

i didnt change bumpstops, and do you really need a write up for springs?
1. take out old springs
2. put new ones on
3. re-assemble and drive

There's 6 pages of discussion on these, Im sure it can all be answered in a simple write up. Not asking you to do one, Im sure someone on here would be happy to make one.

Thanks RED, thats great to know if one was to own a 04+ Grand prix, but what about the suspension setup on 97-03 GP's? I own a 99 (guess I forgot to mention that part, oops) & have seen other gp's with lowering springs put on & a week or so later, the owner finds out that there bump stops are shreded &/or struts are damaged from not being changed to shorter ones or atleast trimed properly. I like the look & price of these DNA springs (no rear end sag we all hate/& a great stance). I would just like to know for sure before I invest. Anyone who may have these DNA springs on a 97-03 GP, please post a small write up on how the suspension was set (even if stock struts were used). :th_sign-thanks:

I didn't change anything on bump stops, and I didn't use anti pogo washers tho I would recommend using them. I just changed out stock springs for DNA's. I have an 02 by the way. Il put picks up in a few days once they are settled. Even though I'm pretty sure they are settled as much as they are gonna
