Discussion on wheel hubs

Crap, my network won't let me see your pictures but I had a hell of a time with one of them being seized on my '05 but I learned my lesson and WD-40'd the hell out of the other front the night before and was MUCH easier.

Sad part is I actually bought a removal tool and there was no way in hell that thing was going to get the bearing off! So now it sits, unused on the shelf. Stuff we learn the hard way! :o
ya i also used 1/2 can of pb blaster. Although I didn't let it sit more than 1/2 hour at a time, I think it still helped. A friend of mine suggested pb blaster and letting it sit a few days then hit it again and keep doing the same process for a couple weeks then try doing the repair. He also suggested just taking the cv halfshaft out with the bearing still on it and using a press to get it off. Either way, I honestly think it was worth the extra $60 to get a new cv halfshaft and just replace the whole ****. Was a $60 well spent IMO.
 


wow wtf...my 06 wasn't nearly that hard...

Just did mine 2 days ago, though I forget to put the torque wrench on it...Doh!...I just got down on it with a 1/2" drive.

So bearing failures is due to over-tightening? Anyone got a torque spec?

I may need to tear mine back down just to check that spec, think it's still salvageable?
 
Tried to do my 98 (that was a FL car btw) had a breakerbar and all... no ****ing luke. 1/2 of PB plaster soaked in over night still no luck

going to use my buddys Air gun in a few days
 
yeah if a impact wrench still doesnt get it...keep pushing on it with the gun...the severe vibrations from the impact wrench may just be what it needs to loosen up.

From memory (slightly fading)
front bearing nuts are ~90 ft lbs
axle nut is 118 ft lbs
rear bearing nuts are ~70 ft lbs

my guess is yours being in southern NC hasn't seen as much bad weather and road salt as others have. When doing my rears I had to scrape out packed salty crude that had been in there for gosh knows how long (at least a year, likely more).
