Discussion on wheel hubs

i bought mine from here, summit racing sells them. they manufacture for timkin. this is a solid metal bearing no cheap plastic anywhere, such as the zzp ones
only 100 bucks each too

I just replaced ALL of mine with Timken's within the last couple of weeks. I had one that had been bad and another that had just gone bad, so I replaced them all as a proactive strike.

I went with Timkens simply because all the research I did I never experienced anyone with genuine complaints about them. Got the fronts for $110 each, the rears for $80 each shipped free...fair prices.

I have 160K on my '05 so I really can't say any of them going bad is unreasonable. Especially remembering some of the totally crap roads I've seen heading through PA, NJ areas. Lucky I still had four functional wheels after few of those visits.
 
Both my fronts were replaced before I bought my car in April...That was part of the deal, I knew it needed bearings so I said fix those first and then I will purchase the car...Of course they were probably replaced with the eBay special and here we are 8 months later with groaning on the highway and ABS light on...Just get Timken so you don't have that problem.
Out of curiosity, when the speed sensor fails and causes the ABS and Trac Off lights to come on is it really dangerous to keep driving around like that. My light was on the other day and I had to put the brake pedal to the floor when a kid ran out in the road and ABS definitely worked :th_scratchhead:

Where did you order from and did they come with new bolts?

Nope, didn't come with new bolts, as NOT recommended, I reused them.

If I remember correctly, I got the fronts from autopartswarehouse with a code and the rears from rockauto with a code. I use partsgeek on occasion as well but not on this.

When getting parts, I do a search and destroy for who has the best deal I can find OTD on what ever it is I need. Often one will have a good price on something but not on another and the inverse.

That figures, their price has come down on those a bit since doing mine. But with shipping is only $5 difference from what I paid, I'll live. :th_winking:

Not sure where you're seeing 'comes with bolts' though? Seeing it with some others but not the timkens? :th_scratchhead:

Actually I just realized I only paid $101 each for the fronts, not $110, so I actually got'em a couple bucks cheaper than at rock. :th_thumbsup-wink:

The service manuals sure make it clear to replace them and the factory ones seem like they're designed to round off easily. Never priced them out but wouldn't be shocked if the parts counter wants $10+ a pop for em. :th_doh:
 


I used blue loctite to hold my motor to my basket in my subwoofer as per Scott from Fi... Somehow I can't see that being enough in this situation.

Yeah, I didn't have any trouble either. Did a helluva lot more damage to a seized axle then the bolts by a long shot. :th_laugh-lol2:

Oh, and I used red loctite. I always use blue on things like forks on a motorcycle but something gave me the impression to use red...so I did.

Well, if they had the sense to put that in the description I would have likely thrown the couple hundred bucks their way....(hint hint).

I pretty much never call anyone for anything, Often don't have time and kind of got sick of knowing more about what I'm calling for than the person on the other end a long time ago..

But over all, rock has done pretty well on prices for stuff.

I would usually agree 100%, but I have to say there was no hold time and the gentleman i spoke with spoke english, and seemed very knowledgable. The entire call took about 5 minutes. But yes, they should put that in the description
 
Does anyone know the difference int he 1st and 2nd design. They have either a plastic or metal wire clip. Does it matter what one you buy?
