Disabling the Door Chime?

Abrasive

I say it with pictures
Anyone know how to disable the door chime without disabling anything else? I'm sure it's not on it's own fuse, it couldn't be that simple, and I don't want to interrupt the courtesy lights, keyless entry, theft deterants. Any ideas? Any ideas where the chime itself is located?

The idea is to have my key set to the accessory position and be able to leave the doors open without the annoying chime, but not interfere with any of the other functions of the car.

Thanks in advance. ;)

BTW... 2002 GTP 4dr.

I know in the 04+ the chime is in the stock radio. You could try starting there. If I unplug my stock radio, no chime. Thats why when we replace the factory radio with aftermarket, it requires a seperate "chime module" in the wiring harness. Maybe its the same with the previous cars or maybe not. I'm sure someone will jump in with more specifics for that year but you could try just unplugging the radio first and see what happens.

Your chime actually comes through the stereo speakers though doesn't it?

Mine was under the right side of the dash board it was a brown box that plugged into a port but when i un plugged that i lost my headlight chime the seabelt chime as well and the seatbelt man stayed on all the time as well.

Could someone post a pic of the 97-03 chimie module for me please if they have it so I can see what it looks like. Cause I was thinking about putting the 97-03 chime module in my car if it can be done

The door chine is handled by the BCM. I can certainly tell you which wire to disconnect. BUT, I think I need the big number off the sticker on the side of the BCM... I might not, but just in case...

All BCMs are different, and the wiring changed from year to year, from model to model.

I too find this annoying, so instead of taking the chance f-ing something up, here is what I do to get by.

When the doors open, with your finger, or a small screw driver, or even your car key, push in the part that rotates around the striker inside the door its self, that actually holds the door closed. When you do this, the door thinks its closed, and off goes the chime.

To undo the closed "hook" in the door, BEFORE you forget and shut the door with it closed, with your key, or a screw driver you insert it in the side opening of the door, pull up on the out side or inside door handle as if you were opening the door, and then just pull towards you and it will open back up easy.

I say you can use your car key, as this moves VERY easily, and there is no strain on the key what so ever. Its always been nice and smooth for me on all the cars I have ever done this to. But you can use a small regular sized screw driver if you want, or even your finger, if you can get it in there. I can, but with my pinkie finger.

Hope that helps.

Looks like Jay gets to do some climbing under his dash then.

Oh what fun that is.

That silver box ^ thats your BCM BTW. Its in a stupid bracket that holds a bunch of other things, and removing one thing from the bracket usually involves the bracket breaking. At least it did for me. :th_wtf:

Mine's black, I'll grab the number off of it next time I'm under there. Maybe this weekend.

Thanks

Yea, the 04+ does come through the stereo speakers.

There is a speaker in the BCM. If you want to mute the thing entirely, you can certainly open it up and unplug it.

I was going to post the wire to disconnect to mute the driver's door, but if you do that, your security system/keyless entry will not work properly. Nor will your door ajar indicators.

The alternative is to install a NC relay in series with the speaker, and drive it with the driver's door signal, so it mutes with the driver's door only. Any interest?

Would disabling the chime affect the alarm? If the car doesnt know if the door is open and you trick it to think its closed then if the doors is opened the alarm wouldnt go off correct? I hate my chimes but dont want to make an entry point vulnerable. I dont have a factory alarm, not sure if it matters but I had the Clifford 2-way transponder system put in. Now that I look at previous post I think my question has been answered. Sorry guys, no coffee yet LOL

I just opened the bcm found where the speaker plugs into the circuit board and unplugged it. If i ever need it back all i have to do is plug it back in. Simple!
