Dim interior lights help

I cut the trunk courtesy light wires in the trunk to put some new LED strips and now all of the interior lights in the car are dim. The trunk LEDs don't light up bright at all, and when i complete the circuit all of the lights in the interior shut off, but are dim when the circuit is not complete. Any ideas?
Thanks

did you cut them before the socket or just splice into them
if you just cut the socket off then when you touch them together then it may be tripping a ciruit breaker and shutting the lights off or blowing a fuse

i cut the socket off because the socket was melted. Once i did that the interior lights went dim inside the car. I then wired up the LEDs and they hardly lit up so i unwired the LEDs. Then i touched the two wires together and the interior lights shut off completely, and when i pulled them apart the interior lights came back on but were dim.

If the lights are still on then there is nothing wrong with the fuse or bulbs themselves. The problem is more than likely loose connections or a bad ground. Those are both common problems with dim lights. Check your wires that you cut to hook up the Leds. Make sure that they are secure connections. If they are soldered, make sure the solder is melted enough.

i wired and soldered everything up real nice and the interior lights are completely off now that the circuit is complete.
