Difference between 2004 and 2006

I want to buy a engine for a 2004 GT that I have
Found a couple 2004 engines with 176,000 miles
I found one that is for a 2006 , 3.8 also
Is there a difference between them
It said on their site that it will only fit 2006 to 2008
Is that true

Mine is the 2004 GT
The engine is from a 2006, not supercharged
The reason I am asking its because it said on their website that it would only fit 2006 thru 2008 or 2009
Even though its a 3.8

Only real difference is the pan. 04 has a steel oil pan that has a separate bracket that bolts to the block for the motor mount. 06 has an aluminum pan with an integral boss for the mount. Fitment is the same as to going in the car. In fact I have an 06 l26 topswap in my 97 Monte Carlo. Seemed like the 06 pan has a bit more ground clearance. As for the rest of the motor its exactly the same

I am going to search more into this, I just don't want to pay for something that is not going to work
Thanks

oh its gonna work just fine, ( will fit too) theres a few parts you need to reuse from your old engine, the tb and maf sensor is one of them for sure. if any other plugs dont fit to the sensor in question, re use the one from your old engine, not to hard a deal really.

the new engine will have a al pan, people upgrade to that, no big deal to make that work right. aka should drop in place like the old one.

this is a good time to replace the engine and tranny mounts. get a new plugs and wires, install the tune up parts dead last. aka dont be slick and install the plugs while the engines out still. thats a fail waiting to happen.
