dies when trottled up

98 gtp idles fine but with you trottle up it dies. any ideas. thinking it was fuel pump but thinking if it was it would even start.
 


prime the fuel pump by turning the key to ON, without starting it. it should be a smooth, quiet hum. im betting its the cat clogged up, or fouled plugs. fouled plugs tend to keep a motor running until its under load. take your ICM to autozone and have them test it. then have them check your coil packs with an ohm meter.
is it throwing any codes? and when pumps go bad, they usually give you bad trouble starting.
 
ok finally got it home and have codes of P0171 and P0403. it starts up fine and idles then it sometime dies havent drove it that far really since i dont want to take a chance
 
System too lean on one of your banks.... Could be a bad O2 sensor, vacuum leak around the manifold, etc. If it said both banks, could be vacuum leak anywhere, dirty MAF, clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump, etc. You also have an egr code, and you usually dont get any driveability issues, but I have seen where they are stuck open, and they'll kill the engine.
 
try pcv valve. my gp threw system too lean bank 1, and i swapped out my pcv valve ($2 at autozone) and it hasnt thrown that code since.
 
^^Then you got lucky because too lean bank one means a vacuum leak so QUIT GIVING BAD INFORMATION. I WORK FOR AUTOZONE AT NIGHT AND YOUR THE KIND OF PEOPLE THAT MAKE US LOOK STUPID.

Don't worry...I'll find you in the system and start calling your store and having fun with that. Ever found a radiator for a 1970 Beetle? Or a set of brake pads for a 1983 Corvette? Let me know when you get them and find me.

Anywho to azlegalthief:

Bank 1 System too lean is a vacuum leak like I had already stated. You should check all the rubber fittings around the plastic vac. lines that run from your throttle body around to the fuel rail, under the supercharger snout to the lower intake manifold, then back around the back to the MAP sensor...there is also another set that runs from the throttle body to the EVAP canister on the back of the supercharger.

Only reason I don't think it could be a vacuum leak there is because of your second code being for the EGR Valve. There are 2 thin gold colored pipes running to the intake manifold and then to the rear exhaust manifold. If the one on the intake manifold side is busted...that could be giving you some issues as well.
 


your assuming that the too lean code is directly related to the issue...... so how many times have you had a problem, and a code that wasnt related? im guessing more than once.

So, your saying a PCM is going to throw a code when the issue doesn't exist?

Your logic = flawed.

BANK ONE LEAN = VACUUM LEAK. Look it up child.
 
im not saying when the issue doesnt exist. use the reading mod. im saying that a code has been thrown to an issue that is completely unrelated to the problem that you often notice. so in this case the lean code could be something completely unrelated to the problem he is noticing..... reading mod.
 
the code doesnt say vacuum leak in your engine. it says system lean, which can be thrown by ANY NUMBER OF THINGS.
 


BANK ONE LEAN MEANS VACUUM LEAK.

Maybe try researching or check your awesome autozone scanners when you get into work.
 
and bank 1 lean is what my car was throwing when my pcv valve was locked up. its basic maintenance anyways. are you gonna hate yourself for shelling out 2 bucks on a pcv valve that hasnt been replaced since your last UIM job?
 


well i thank you for all the advice here and will check in the morning for some of the issue with the vacuum leak. i thought it might be around the intake but will have to see if i can find a way to check that. but first things first, check vacuum lines, check pcv valve, three clean egr and check tubes... once again thanks
