DIC question

ok so when I upgraded my radio this shop said that there was no harness to hold the radio made for my year grand prix so he used a diffrent harness and cut into the plastic above the radio to make is fit. Well it kept falling out so went to buy a harness for the grand prix and yeah i found it but now i have this gap between the harness and the plastic trim piece. So i looked around ebay and every seller say that the DIC has the miles in it. I have like 50000 miles in my car I dont want to but someting that has 100k+ to void my warranty. But is it really true that the DIC holds that information or would I have to get it reprogrammed as the sellers say?:th_question1:

Guess this is for a 04+ GP? I'm not positive on this subject, so my word is not gold, but I was always under the impression that the milage of a car is stored elsewhere. i.e. the pcm or even somewhere else. The only experience I have to back that up though is my friend did a gauge cluster swap (the digital milage is displayed in the cluster) in his 01 Impala, and when he plugged the different cluster into the harness, it displayed his car's actual milage, not the mileage of the car it came out of. I would imagine that it would be the same for the 04+ since if that wasn't the case people could just go out and buy low mileage DIC's and put them in high milage cars and try to sell it as "low miles" car. Again though, I'm not positive on this, just what I think the case would be.

thanks for your reply. Its an 06 GP , I thought I saw a thread about this but I cant find it lol, oh well I would hope that the mileage info would be stored somewhere else but im not sure, conflicting info everywhere. I guess i'll just wrap it in leather or vinyl to fix it ha ha. maybe i can even get my first sticky :D

thanks tho:)
