DIC? Dead Or?

When I bought my car the DIC was not working. I can shine a flashlight on it and see that it is still working, just the bulbs in the back are dead. Read a thread that the bulbs are soldered on and cant really be replaced. But earlier today as I was driving on the highway I notice the DIC was bright as day shining bright as ever. It was not sunlight hitting the DIC, the bulbs actually lit up. But later today it died again. So now im wondering if maybe its just some wire or fuse thats screwing with my DIC or is it the actual bulbs itself.
 


I bought a used DIC from a local u-pull salvage yard along with dash surround. I spent some time today taking the front of the dash apart to see if it worked. It worked as good am my original unit but the trac off light was out. I figured I had nothing to lose so I took it apart. There are 3 PC74 bulbs that press in and twist behind the DIC and another 2 bulbs behind the other 2 areas. You have to take the assy apart to get access to the bulbs. If you can get a used unit at a salvage yard you might try the same thing I'm doing. I'll know if it works better tomorrow after I put it back in the car.
 
I put the salvage unit back together then took the original unit apart and replaced all the bulbs. The original unit had 2 bulbs out behind the display. I swapped out both units in the car and they work flawlessly.
 
lol, read something about how tapping it can make it work. Its fully functional again lmao!
