• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Dex Coolant

Dex would turn to oat back years ago. Formula's have changed many times since. Ford, Dodge and GM all went to nylon based gaskets and had issues. That particular part wasn't the coolant's fault. It was either neglect to do maintenance (coolant exchange) or it was nylon gaskets. Hence why GM fixed the issue with metal frame gaskets.

Are you saying if I swap to metal gaskets I should not see the sludge again? (After doing a complete flush on the coolant system of course)

Personally I'd still swap over to green. But that's just me, after having multiple issues with dexcool I won't use it no matter how many times they reformulate it.

sludge is from air making contact with the old dex coolant. flushing it to clear water, then adding a flush to it will clear most of it out, you'll still find a booger here and there on the rad cap after wards down the road. nothing to worry about.

Green is not suited to the amount of aluminum in our systems. Green is not a good replacement.

Use Anycolor and smile after flushing it to death.

If I know one thing from my short time here it's that if it comes out of BillBoost's mouth you should trust it.

....except that thing he said about my mom.

i found that nissan green works just fine, since thats what i have on tap at the dealership i work at......NEVER dexcool

I tore down a 99 GTP (200K miles) to replace the LIM gaskets as a preventative measure... the factory plastic gaskets were actually in good shape, considering the age/mileage. The previous owner religiously changed coolant every year. Fresh dex is perfectly fine, although not sure how long it takes for dex to become acidic.

That said, the replacement metal LIM gaskets are still good insurance.
