Developing hard-shifts / Towing / Need Opinions

Thanks Scotty. The trailer hitch was from E-Trailer and specifically designed for the GP which made installation a breeze.

Under the spare is two rubber grommets. You remove them and drop in this plate.

Underneath you raise the hitch up and secure the bolts.

Out back it's the same deal. They use the existing holes in the steel part of the bumper.

After that it's just a matter of tightening down everything down and your all set.

By the way, are you doing Englishtown this weekend? I'll be there either Staurday or Sunday. I'm waiting on a friend to see which day he's going.
 


damn, swap meet time already? ill see if my brother is going this year, his old boss takes a full crew down every year, he has a spot to sell stuff most years.

that a clean mounting job. to bad it looks like id be dragging it on the ground at every driveway apron around here. not that i ever plan on towing with my car.

You and me both. I have to jack up the rear another 1-1/2" because even with an 1" of lift already she still drags the floor. I'm going to just get the heavy duty quick struts and throw them in since I will be doing a lot of towing.

And yes, that's what I said! Englishtown already?! The weather is going to be beautiful both days. I'll check back when I know which day I'm going.
 
not sure if the oldsmobile intrigue will lift, but people here have said they help with sagging.


yeah ill catch up with my brother, see what his deal is as far as going.
 
Nice bike! That thing IS a beast. Were you riding track or public roads? Glad to see another GP with a bike behind it :)

Wow! Nice! Now how did you deal with the low height of the rear end? Do you have a lift kit for your coils or did you go with H.D. Springs? Great looking rides you have there. Me, no, only public roads. My YZF is a "one year only" bike so I'm afraid to lay it down on a trackday. Do you leave your car in 3rd gear when towing? Sorry for all the questions, but yours is the first GP I've seen towing bikes behind it.
 


Okay so maybe the picture was showing up correctly. I have the stock struts in back; it definitely rides low but I guess I just take it easy when going in and out of driveways, etc.

I have always just put it in Drive and let the transmission do its thing but often I'll take it out of Cruise Control because that causes it to shift often. With good foot control I can keep it from shifting on most hills - just let the speed drop a bit. I also have the "hardened 4th" or whatever so I have less reason to worry, but I still worry!

Mine never shifted down by itself while I was driving, even up hills, but thats because it's a really light trailer. Heck, you have two bikes! You got a nice trailer though.

If you consider cutting the top off of a home-made enclosed trailer, laying plywood with a scaffold plank for a ramp - yea we have a great setup. Haha! It gets the job done.

I can't seem to figure how the embed feature works. It isn't showing up for me...
 
in the reply window, 3 rd link from the right, click that icon, a window pops up, you click the url tab, un check that damn little box, then paste the url of the pic in the line for text. you can right click any pic (almost) and click copy url, then paste it in the window. hit OK and its done.

Well, It looks as though I'll be there Sunday from 7:30am to about 1:30pm or so. I'll be driving the GP down and as usual, everyone else pulled out at the last minute so I'll be alone. If you make it Sunday, give me a ring at 347-626-5710 and we'll meet up. The weather is going to be beautiful down there.
 


i got stuck working tomorrow, and and my brother passed on going, and im in some pain due to sleeping like a tard last week. my back and neck hurt like a mofo, and today it came back full force. sunday will be a recoop day for sure. no way i could make it walking the miles of rows of stuff there. not the way i feel now.

i took a pain killer 30 minutes ago, it should be kicking in soon. forgot i had them or i would have been taking them last week. aspirin did nothing.

sucks when driving, a quick look to the left at intersections just aint happening lol
 
Updated photo link above to show the towing capabilities of my GP. Photobucket is much better than the hosting site I was using before. I DID reference the "how to post pics for morons" thread :th_clapping:

Despite my worries in this thread, the car is running great and I think most of the shifting issues were occurring between my ears.
 
A small update of concern: last night I was driving home from a mountain bike race and getting heavy into the throttle a bit just for fun. I had been driving for about 7 miles when I realized I had the car in 3rd not in "D". I think at this time I was likely going about 55-60 mph and I shifted into "D" no problems. About a half mile later I was taking a big sweeping exit ramp so had let off the throttle and felt the transmission bumping into and out of gear and noticed the HUD showing it shifting into and out Neutral. It did about 3 times each one about a second apart. I shifted back into 3rd and then into drive again thinking the selector may have been finding a false neutral. Everything was fine from there on out. The shifts weren't overly harsh or anything but it scared the crap out of me.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or a similar experience with a false neutral? Hopefully a fluke but I'm a little wary of the Transgo install right now...
 


I'm going to block off my trans cooler for the winter, does anyone have a recommendation? I'm looking for something more than just a piece of cardboard in front of the cooler but not looking to reroute hoses or anything major. Thanks!
 
dirtdog was talking about something to bypass the trans cooler. PM him, he may have more details on his plans for it.

other then blocking it with cardboard you'll either have to re route the hoses back to stock, or install a by pass. either way its to damn cold out to be dealing with that crap right now, so cardboard seems like a win for now lol
