Decided on my first radar detector :)

Well after thinking about it for a year (and getting a speeding ticket) I have decided it was time to invest in a detector. Finally decided to go with the whistler XTR-695. Its mid level in performance and cost. I dont have the 500 to drop on a passport but this one runs about 120 on ebay. THe reviews I have read have been positive and Well I dont need all that gps crap anyways :P

I've seen passport 8500s going for around that on ebay. I bought mine used 3 years ago and works great still. Even if you get one that listed as broken or service required escort has a flat repair fee of 55. They have been as cheap as 50 with all the needed parts like window mount on power cord, that and the repair you can have one cheap but it will be some time. But let me tell you, I will never buy another radar detector, this thing is way better then every one I had in te past. On a long road trip we had it and a buddies valintine 1 at the same time to compare and the passport was accually better in hilly areas.

exactly as the name states. You ever go down the interstate and top a hill and there is a cop sittin in the meidan watching you more than likely hes running radar or a laser to catch speeders. These give you a advanced warning before you see the cop so you can slow down and dont get busted :)

True but i usually am never going that fast... thats asking for trouble i just need it as my foot tends to get a little heavy on the e-way and i tend to not pay attention to my HUD lol

my buddy gave me a a cheap cobra and its done a decent enough job to save me a few times lol. I have always wanted a v1 tho but I can think of quite a few other things to drop that kind of money on

valentine 1 or nothing.... but to each his own

too many false warnings, and a thief magnet ;)

i use a beltronic rx65 and my bro uses passport 8500. i tested them both and both work great. imho there is no need for anything better than these two.

I had my share of detectors around 1990-1998. Then in my area the police got smart and made laser and instant on radar as their main choices for catching speeders. The issue then is that typically you are the target and having the detector merely confirms that it's time to pull over.

If I were going to do something, it wouldn't be detection. It would be cloaking.

I would take that into consideration Bill. However, I live in an area with very little money. They are mostly worried about other crime and usually traffic enforcement isnt their concern. So this is just for those times they decide to be annoying. My friend uses one in this area and rarely has a problem with laser detection. My guess is that they dont use laser that much around here.

I totally agree with going with the best item for the area. Was kinda playing devil's advocate on how my area changed and made my detectors worthless.

Yes..I got confirmation that I was shot with a laser. Somehow talked my way down from a $400 ticket to $75 and no points by the time I left the courthouse.

Even with the cop having knowledge you were using a detector? Wow from what I understand if they see it they are much more likely to not budge on the tickets
