dead slip bang TRANNYMAN HELP!!!

Scenerio: I start my car up cold, back it out of a parking spot, put it in drive. If I give if the accelerator a moderate amount of gas it either slips until I let off the gas OR if I give it enough gas it slips and then bangs into gear. It only does it on the initial launch after I put it in gear. If I get up to speed and stop and do it again it launches just fine, no slipping or banging.

I just had the trans rebuild. It had this problem before it was rebuilt and I even told them this was going on. I know they replaced the boost valve and the pressure control solenoid. Any ideas what this could be?

no codes either.

Take it back to who rebuilt it...You paid the money, they should fix it.

:th_laugh-lol3:

thank you for being the smart one.

No the fluid is not burnt, the level is full, the converter was replaced and it is in gear before I hit the gas.

Well, I did the trans shop a favor and made it easier to diagnose. I put it in gear and brake torqued it till it popped out of gear, like it always does, then I put it to the floor till it slammed back into gear at about 6K.......now it won't go into any gear or even move. :th_sinister:

no it's not. I called them a couple days ago telling them that there still was a problem, they gave me the typical run-around. So now it's going to show up on a flatbed. Sorry, a trans should last longer than 2 days.

No kiddin. My trans is doing something similar to your first post but after it's been running awhile and when i come to a quick stop and go again. Like turning a corner or somethin. But my trans has 161k on it.

the only reason I had it rebuilt was because the flexplate broke. I figured they should fix the other problems while it was out. The slip bang, 1-2 shutter and TCC surge.

Doesnt sound like they did much or know much about these transmissions. The pressure control solenoid should be replaced period, not replacing it is just asking for trouble and is also a known cause to your problem. Its just not worth the trouble to NOT replace solenoids in these transmissions, especially the pcs, since they are such fun to replace in the car. At least you broke it good this time! They cant deny something is wrong if it doesnt move so now they have a reason to go back inside. Unfortunately you are going to be waiting now and warranty work rarely gets treated with any speed to get it finished but every shop is different and I hope they take care of out. It sounds like you broke the input shaft revving it up and slamming it into gear but either way it will warrant them pulling the trans and fixing it...... unless they deny it because now there are broken parts!

yeah, I told them it doesn't move and their like "sounds like your converters bad because there was material in the pan" I'm like............."just fix my car and put a PCS in there while it's out please" fricken idiots. They told me the convert was probably causing the slip/ bang, I'm like !!!!!!!!!!!!! how the hell is that going to cause a slip bang, NOWAY!

they fixed the trans but the slip bang is still there. PLEASE HELP THIS IS FRICKIN ANNOYING!! It's getting worse too, I can barely push the gas or it feels like it's slipping.

reviving this old thread............ Trans still slips in D, initially, but doesn't when I put it in 1st. Does this help diagnose the issue?

Who rebuilt your trans? What is the list of parts that they replaced? How much did you pay for the rebuild?

friction material, 4th shaft, pressure control sole, boost valve, converter, flexplate. Paid like 2500, Big Dick in the ass. Aamco transmissions out of plymouth Michigan, don't go there, they are a bunch of crooks.

A full year and the same symptom? Didnt you take it back for this or did you give up? That is a lot of money to throw down and not get what you paid for whether they want to make it right or not. This problem is not that uncommon in these transmissions. Unfortunately many Aamco trans shops do things as cheap as possible and get a bad reputation quick for this and will haunt them even if they sell to a new owner. Im not saying they are all like this because it is a franchise chain and there are some very reputable ones out there. We do have an article about this problem on our website in the problem section but honestly sounds like a worn input clutch apply piston, that is if they actually replaced the pcs since it sounded like the first time around they did not. Some shops dont even take apart the clutch drums during a rebuild if the frictions arent burnt but again thats just how the game is played when shops try to move volume and make top $$, things are overlooked. Regardless the cause there is very little you can do short of tearing into the transmission.

Yeah, a full year. I got tired of taking it back and spending money on rentals and what not. I was going to take it to you but I needed the car back quickly......Turns out I would have spent the same amount and had my car back faster....Live and learn. I could have sworn I tried using 1st and it still slipped. Well in any event it does not slip when I use 1st. Too bad I figured it out after the warranty expired.

What can I expect to pay to have this issue fixed? Probably not even worth the money huh?

At first I was gonna ask if you got it done at Cottman Transmissions in Olathe, KS. I had the exact same issues, drove it off the lot after dropping $2500, slipped off the lot. Brought it back.... yadda yadda yadda.... got it back 2 days later same cold slip. Brought it back and they "fixed" it. 11 months and 13k miles later, tranny goes. Sucks for me I only had a 12month/12k mile warranty. I bought a Certified Transmission and have had good luck. They had to warranty it once, their was issues with the TCC.
