Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - TRANNY SURPRISE!

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill started singing the song from Furious 7

I haven't had the car for a little over a week now...because this is happening

In the mean time parts are showing up

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill started singing the song from Furious 7

I do like that wheel..

Just like I like those Audi wheels you are buying for the mistu

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill started singing the song from Furious 7

But my swedish meatball doesn't have nearly that much car cancer. Say it ain't so.

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill started singing the song from Furious 7

Trying to figure out what I want to go in this engine...

Engine:
B234 Block ($200)
B234 Crank (Comes with above)
ACL Main & Rod Bearings ($250)
Abott Racing Forged Connecting Rods ($600)
Wossner 91mm (1.0mm oversize) Pistons ($550)
Balance shaft delete kit ($65)
Timing chain/engine rebuild kit ($400)
T7 Heads ported/polished/rebuild ($1000 estimated)
Stiffer valve springs ($300)
T5 Cams ($100)
Tubular exhaust manifold ($350)
ARP Head studs ($125)
Misc. Parts/bolts/gaskets ($500)

Turbo:
GTX2971/67R (haven't 100% decided but one of those 2) ($1750)
Exhaust modification (if needed)
Intake modification (will be needed)
Front mount intercooler setup ($500)

Transmission:
LSD ($500)

I'm pretty sure I got everything, I will pull this motor and we will use the good stuff off of it to combine into the B234 block and build this motor. While that is going on, I will pull both subframes, send them off to powder coating and have any remaining rust sodablasted and the underside of the car repainted, then the car will be painted a custom color. Once I get the subframes back I will put all new bushings everywhere (that does need it, I have already done most of it). Car will be rebuilt from there, will need an external oil cooler and various other upgrades.

I'm also hunting down Hirsch parts like the dash, door handle pulls and door sills. I should also be fitting some corbeau A4 seats.

ETA: about 5 years.

End goal north of 450hp.

Woot!

So yeah...about half the car is getting repainted now. I might have to just bite the bullet and get the rest repainted soon.

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill started singing the song from Furious 7

I'm thinking about a mix between this grey and the darker grey of my dad's car + alot of flake and pearl.

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill started singing the song from Furious 7

Gray is so bla but i love everything else being done.

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill started singing the song from Furious 7

The new color will be a year or two. When I pull the motor and while it is a rolling chassis, the subframes will be removed and powder coated in orange, while the car gets painted. Once it all comes back, the new motor goes in with the bigger turbo. :D The car will just return to me now in its current color, the rust needed to be taken care of now before it got any worse.

Thumbs up on this.

The current popularity of orange has been the topic of some shop talk where I work. Can't explain color fads, and am not suggesting your build is trendy... just never met anybody who likes orange or brown cars but they sure are popular colors for show cars recently. I'm waiting for blue and green to come back around, dark reds are about all I'm seeing now that I like. On exteriors anyway. So yeah- how come orange frames?

because my friend who will powder coat them said what color, it is all the same price? I said Orange to just do something different.

Re: Drunkie's Saab Story 2.0 - Poor Man's 4 door GT car

Nothing wrong with randomness, just checking. Should help avoid bumping head on frame when working under car if nothing else.

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill is just jealous of this Saab because it is AWESOME

Got the car back today. It is ****ing awesome.

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill is just jealous of this Saab because it is AWESOME

I'm sorry to hear that, man. Did you get the plate of the guy who did that to your car?

Re: Dave's Saab Story 2.0 - Bill is just jealous of this Saab because it is AWESOME

Did 3 passes with the buffer and sealed it. Upgraded from the Pioneer F700bt to the Kenwood DDX372 (a part of me wishes I went for the DNX572, but I hardly use Navigation), I also fixed a couple things under the dash.

Also built a new PC (Antec P280, i7 4790k, MSI Gaming 5, 2 x 8GB DDR3 1866, 500GB SSD, GTX970)

I still have a few things that need adjustment/fixes. The sideskirts need an adjustment to fit 100% flush with front fender (probably fix that this weekend), headlight wash on driver's side sticks out 2-3mm even when closed because the intercooler is too larger and presses on the headlight washer unit (I know, it is probably a good problem), and still have to replace the driver's seat bracket.

I've also decided that the motor was a little costly so I decided to forego the GTX2971R turbo and do a TD04-20T turbo, so I can keep the stock rods. I should be a decent power house for a lot less coin...those two things alone save me $2,200.

LOL if I whipped out my DSLR and took close up shots of my bumpers...they wouldn't look as nice as they do in the pictures LOL.
