Dash gage needles

Recently I found a set of needles out of an 05 Grand Prix for my 01 gtp. My dad says I shouldn't do it because dust will get in, but I think it'll look good. Has anyone done this and if so is there a dust issue?
 




Needles are easy to swap, had acura integra needles in my montes old cluster. If anything it gives you a chance to get dust out of your cluster :)
 
Install them. You'll love them.

Im confused by what your dad means by dust issue? All I had to do was cut the stem of the speedometer needle and then the tip off the needle to make it look good. I can assure you I don't have any more of a dust issue than I had before?

I would suggest doing it. Really adds a different look at night. I actually don't notice anymore but when I first swapped they looked way better than the stock needles.

He said it's vacuum sealed and if I open it, it won't be sealed and dust will accumulate
 
Hmm. I guess I never knew that. As far as the dust issue I haven't noticed mine being any more dusty from not being vacuum sealed if that is true. As long and you screw the plastic back over it the plastic will keep most dust out.

Also, couldn't I just put a piece of tape under each stock needle to mark where everything is instead of doing all the complicated Apps and stuff?
 
You could. I did the RPM needle at idle because I knew where that one was all the time. Gas gauge I did with the car on and swapped quick. Temp was the trickier one and I cant remember what I did for that one. Might have been while running but if you wait too long it could change. The speedo I did while driving down the road. Just make sure you find an empty wide road and use your HUD if you have one.

This is most likely "dad" code for- Son, I really don't think this is necessary/waste of money or a good idea to mess with the instrumentation."

All clusters have open places somewhere. Unless you work at a quarry, concrete plant, or sand/gravel pit I doubt you will see any extra dust accumulate on it.

So true actually. My dad probably would have said something kind of like this if I would have told him what I was doing. I've learned to go do and then tell what I did. lol

Yeah I think so too and I thought about that when I was taking the cover off haha and I was super careful with the location of the needles. The only problem I had was the speedometer. It would always read 20-30 mph over and when I fixed it 5 seconds later it would fall off but I think I got lucky and it stayed on
