Danielle's 99 GT :)

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

Well, I spent my Memorial Day morning with my car.
After 5 hours, she looks sooo much better! I never realized just how dirty white can be when you think it looks clean.
Spent 1 hour at the car wash.
Used some dawn and hand scrubbed the entire car, and also went thru 1 bottle of bug & tar remover. Also used the turtle wax liquid clay and hand dried it.
Then after I got home the fun started. Clay barred the whole car, and used the Turtle wax synthetic liquid polish (stuff is amazing if you have no shade to wax in! Plus it doesn't leave that nasty white residue everywhere). Washed all the windows inside and out, cleaned the leather and dash. Spent some time on the wheels with Mothers and finished them off with some shine spray.
Finally, a day off work with no rain and this is the results:

I want to get the calipers painted really bad, so thats probably next once I get the stripped wheel stud replaced.
I also need to find a good place for a photo shoot. There is a river near by with a bunch of tree's I was thinking might look neat.

Here is from Easter weekend when I got brave and took the spoiler off. I was surprised at how good it looked. Now the water and junk runs out so much easier :)

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

Thanks!
White looks hella good when its super super clean :)

It won't last long because I think they are forecasting rain AGAIN tomorrow.
How many coats of wax is suggested to keep on the car?

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

looking good! did you use the liquid ice? if so my car would look better after the next car wash, it seemed to remove the slickness of the ice, and dust stopped sticking to it as well,(always left the paint sorta greasy) i think the liquid ice was good for 6 months, one coat always worked well for me.

and you know its going to rain, you just washed and waxed the car, it always rains afterwards lol.

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

Yes I used the Ice. I love that stuff! The interior stuff is amazing too, it can be used on everything.
I agree, it does feel greasy. But I've been happy with it so far.
And agreed, it never fails. Rain can smell a clean car lol

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

yeah it works great on plastic too, my 03 truck had the plastic under the bumper, the grill and fender flairs, it really made them pop. and water just seems to bead up so nicely when it gets wet.

and its the least amount of work for a wax job ever. literally wax on wax off.

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

your next step should be lower the car 1.5-2'' makes a huge diffrence in looks and even handling. Also some Hid headlights. a 6000 or 8000k looks great. and tint the damn tails already it looks good. and get the exaust tips done too asap! then your car will look sick!

Haha, I'd like to lower it, but money is kinda tight and needs to go towards other things instead of mods :(. It does have rear sag pretty good tho, so I guess it'd be a great excuse to do such!
I need to find a good set of tails, these (used) ones are 1 month old and already take in water. I would really love a set of red LED's. Im not so sold on the tinting tails anymore. Windows are already illegal and im a pansy lol.
And the tips...soon!! Im trying to talk my boyfriend into putting them on now. But that means cutting them off when I finally get around to getting new muffs.

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

Great looking car! I wouldn't tint the tails if I were you. I've always liked the way the factory red tails look on a white car

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

When I clean my car all the way down and clay bar it then I take my time and really get it good with a good polish the condition of your paint will determine what polish you need.
After I get it polished I hand wash it again and take my time, Then I dry it and check it to make sure I didn't miss any spots.

At that point I go for meguriurs #7 polish and do the whole car.

Then I go over with a very thin coat Hi-tech#26

Wait 16 hours and put another coat of hi-tech #26

Then its good to go and I'll keep layering #26 on it every couple of weeks It really does make a huge difference keeping the car clean if you have some good layers of wax on there

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

I'm going to have to second this. For what they want for the LED tails, you could dang near get all your top swap supplies.

No kidding.
I'm wondering...those LED tails...when one light goes out, can you replace just that bulb or are you stuck with dealing with it? (or get a new set of tails $$$)

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

If i was to do HID conversion....can I just get this kit and its really that simple?
Standard 9007-1 HID Conversion Kit Wholesale Standard 9007 HID Conversion Kit HID Bulbs Xenon HID Car Headlights Ballast at cheap price [VVME-HKS97-STD] - $39.99 : VVME.COM, Car Parts, HID KIT, Tattoo Kit, Ballast, Bulbs

and what bulb? I want th brightest/whitest light. I was looking at getting the Silverstar ulta's..but this is cheaper and probably a better deal I think.
I have H1 bulbs in the fogs that I don't want to change again (they are plenty bright for me)

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

Yes, it's that simple.

whitest color I believe is 4300k, but I have 6000k and they look really white to me.

You need a 9007 bulb for your lights.

Re: 1999 Grand Prix GT

I apologize for a couple sideways pictures, they are showing up right way up in Photobucket but not on here :(
A few pictures of my old car: 2005 G6 GT w/ 80k miles.
My boyfriend bought it off of me when I had to get rid of it and get something cheaper.
I told him he needed to let me take it home and wash/wax it...here are the results:

Last September, at my old place of employment they decided to paint a big fed ex truck bright orange on a windy day using a airless sprayer. My car was about 300 ft away and hidden by 2 greenhouses, but it didnt matter. I had orange speckles all over the place (there are still some there). Me being so lucky as I thought, my boss also owns a car wash and they detail cars. I was going out of town so I let him keep it over the weekend and get the paint off. I came back to a dull, scratched all to hell black car. I was not happy. He wouldnt do anything about it. So I took it to a couple body shops and got quoted $400 to get the shine back because it needed buffed and a bunch of other stuff. Needless to say, I couldnt afford that so I just let it go. The only time she looks gorgeous is right after a bath and a fresh wax job. The boyfriend is gonna get it detailed by a pro he used to work with sometime. I can only do so much to make it look pretty.

Anyways, I'm a pretty awesome girlfriend I think for spending my day washing/waxing his car :)
