I got stopped last night for driving with my parks and fogs on, then he told me my tails were to dark. Mind you i have passed numerous city cops and state troopers the same way and had never been stopped. i have l.e.d. halos with 3 leds in the center, guess they look like dim as lights to the others. Well here's my question, i tinted my tails myself and they are dark but ive seen darker, if i installed an l.e.d smd tail light bulbs how much brighter will it be? will it be enuff to keep the laws off my ass?? until i get the money to get a set of l.e.d. tail lights?

First thing is first, Find your local law for lights and post it up.

My state requires a certain distance of visibility and that is what you should base the "darkness" on.

Mine are black and I haven't been harassed for them.

its 500 ft, heres a pic with them on in the day time and off

naw he let me make it wit a verbal, he said he had to do the same to his wife rx-8; order new tail lights, get the windows re-tinted (he said the tint laws in tx have changed again). so i guess he kinda understand. plus this is a small town and he said he jus moved here from MO

If it was a verbal warning, don't worry too much about it. If it becomes a fix it ticket or actual violation. Print the statute and take it to the courthouse and have them stand 500 feet back and look at the lights. Problem solved.

I wouldn't change ANYTHING as long as you are within the law.

Protip: For light violations, go to the courthouse/dmv to have them looked at as close to dusk or dawn as possible. Any slight advantage helps.

thanks cuz there is always an officer at our dmv. do you think the l.e.d. bulbs will help tho, they are supposed to be pretty bright (been lookin on ebay)

Damn thats dumb. My tails are that dark and never been picked on for it. I just get messed with sometimes for having my front plate in my windshield and not on my bumper.

Oh and for the LED's, I didnt really see a big difference. Plus you'll need to replace the blinker relay, the LED has barely any resistance and it tricks the relay to think the bulb is out. So the turn signals flash really fast like when a bulbs out. Heres a demo YouTube - LED Tails demo
And you may wanna mute the video or you might shoot yourself.

Basically depends where you live..
Mine are darker than that, but I was pulled over monthly for them when I lived in alaska.. I lived in a small town that was outside of a larger town, so lots of cops lived there. It was a nicer area so there was minimal crime. That meant cops nitpicked all the little stuff, tinted tails/ windows, etc.
Anyway, drove 5000 miles across Canada and the US, and now have been in florida for about 6 months with 0 issues, and i've also added 15% window tint down here.

the video was ok, the sun was on one side of the car and not the other lol but thanks for the input, ima try to find sume l.e.d. with a lot on them

in mass you cant have tint on any of the lights and they are supposed to fail you at inspection. why didnt you have your headlights on? thats probable cause to pull you over and inspect your car on the spot.

ive noticed in direct sunlight it can be hard to see braek lights with no tint. on that note i got these bulbs and i have tinted tails. these work awesome in the day! V-LEDS RED V-STAR M-SMT TAIL/BRAKE LIGHT BULBS 3157 3156 4057

I have tails that are just slightly lighter than the black paint on my regal. Been pulled over a few times since they've been on and wasn't even mentioned. Once on a bright sunny day and once at night so probably didn't notice then. It's completely random I think.
