cylinder head question

ok at long last we have finally tracked down a misfire iv had thats only at idle...did a compression test and leak down test and we found that there is a compression leak somewhere in the head. So my question is what gaskets do i need to pull the heads and put them back on? And 2 how easy is it to do a standard valve job yourself? or should i just take them to a shop or order a set of head say from zzp? I have very little money so id like to get it done for as little as possible and hopefully pretty quick cuz it is my DD. any and all feedback, suggestion, and comments are welcome! thx guys

I have fixed this problem on a few 3800s...

The head itself is probably unsavable... You will probably neeed to look for some good used head/heads.

well yall think ill be ok getting a set of the reconditioned heads from zzp? or should i just order new one from rock auto or somewhere else?

just get some good uesd ones. MAKE sure you have them checked. MAGNAFLUEXED (spellin?)

guess ill have to keep my eye out on the for sale thread. But, have to get money first...or hope someone wants to trade the heads for something lol thing is its only one cylinder that has the problem so yall think i should replace both while im at it?

Do you only replace one side of brake pads?:th_shakinghead2:

Or buy ZZP's reconditioned and know for certain they're good, and ready to go.

it would be like $750 over all for all the gaskets, heads, and extra stuff to do it all for me but i just looked on craigslist and saw there is an L67 fro sale from a yard from $600 lol but either way i dont have any money right now sadly...

There's a set sitting in the back of my truck under the tonneau cover. No springs, valves may or may not all still be in them. But they are heads and if you want them, literally ..pay shipping.

Typically UPS is about $35 a full head to ship. W/o springs and valves, probably be about $30 a head.

you can also check out car-part.com, call the local junkyards. hell you can get a whole motor for like 350.

yeah iv been watching car-part religiously and there are a couple places that will sell me a motor for that but the closest one that will is like 400 miles away lol

Depending on what is wrong with your head, there is a machine shop by me that rebuilds heads and tests them for $50 a head.

yeah the only machine shop anywhere close to me charges $180 for both heads and that doesn't include if something need to be replaced/fixed...overall i looked that i can get an L67 full for like $700 only catch is either way i have to find the money...
