CV shaft problem

I am replacing my cv shafts. Drivers side went just fine. The shaft pulled right off. Doing the passenger side however, the inner joint of the shaft pulled out of the housing. When I try to pull the housing off, the entire shaft starts to slide out of the transmission, with the housing. Anyone have a way around this? If the shaft comes out and I seperate the shaft from the housing on the bench, will the shaft just push back in without any internal transmission problems?

On the pass. side, the cv joint slides into the end of the diff. there is no more shaft.
Just pull the cv axle out of the differential.

Ok, wait, I understand your quaestion now.

You can pull the axle out with the differential, but be carfull it is long, and there is a small plastic part in the transmission you do not want to damage when sliding the drive side axle out the pass. side differential opening.
But, Why are you dissasemvling the differential?

Nope, you understood it the first time around. It comes out with a shaft on it as one piece. Pretty sure the drivers side was different though, first one I have done on my GP and it threw me. All is good now! Thanks for the reply!

Passenger side inner CV is male, driverside is female. Yes they look different. Yes they sound correct and no you aren't pulling anything other than the CV out.

You should never however pull a cv from the middle or end. You should always push/pull from the backside of the cv joint so that you don't seperate them. This means you always push the outter part of the joint toward the inner parts of the joint/cv.
